Ok, I just looked at the whole "Karma Points" thing again, on my own profile...and i am completely confused. As of this posting, I have 53 Karma Points, with a Karma Level of 0 of 0 (O being "Best").
Yeah, it is a conundrum, since it looks like the more posts you have the higher your level -- but the higher your level the worse off you are! Maybe it's just a way to help keep the forum from becoming cluttered with unnecessary posts.....like this one.

I have looked at the "Karma Points" thing and the closest I can think of is that the more a person posts to the forum, the higher their "level" -- while the more "uncivilized" posts they put up, resulting in being "called down" for them or having posts removed, the higher their "Karma Points". I would imagine that anyone who manages to get themselves booted from the forum would also have first accrued a lot of Karma Points, no matter how many -- or how few -- posts they have made to the forum.....

apparently the Karma level is not yet activated and there has to be long time since it will...
I have visited many forums that people who post often have different (Karma ) titles...
others are called Senior Members, others Golden ones, other premier etc..but all these have 1000 + posts...
i think we are in a very early level to think about karmas...we have whole future to fill with posts
...and this is no competition toward number of posts or who has the most shiny Karma Title...we are here to become a faerie circle and do goodness with magical help of Loreena :-}

I very much doubt Loreena McKennitt would ever consider judging someone on this message board regarding such trifles. I do hope she reads the forum, though, at least from time to time, as there are not so much posts here comparing to avalanche that happens in some places and the whole polis is moderated, additionaly improving quality or so called signal to noise ratio. No amount of moderation will bring good writers here and inspire them to write, though. We need good readers and animators too - people who will give those who can write ideas and people who will motivate them to spend time on QR forum not reading some interesting book about Cognitive Science ;-}. The good thing is we don't need sponsors - QR is in position to sponsor *us* with some merchandise! Hyperreal.info (one of most important non-profit enterprises of my domain) has and will in the future sponsor actions that increase sense of community (in Polish - "naszość", as in "Za waszą wolnoność i naszą" - "Site for freedom"). We managed to print several batches of hyperreal.info shirt and send (legal!) seeds of hemp and spores of Psilocibe mushroom to people - how about QR printing a special run of shirts and blouses for forum members or some other clever, not very pricey gadgets, they don't even have to be build of matter, the matter we care about is of different kind, so it doesn't matter - how about a mail sound in some common format (like mp3) with Loreena voice chanting "You've got mail!"? :-}}} .A or even the same thing personalized, for example a soundbite of her pronouncing in medieval accent: "Yer mail hast arrived, sire aDam..." (aDam is one of my real names). Be creative! This forum needs more Google attention, BTW.
It does help tremendously that it is moderated (especially in these days of automated agents from Korea IP's filling fora with countless illegible spam) - I myself am a moderator of a newsgroup - and that one is aboot sexual matters, so the people are especially touchy, proon to keep silence from community induced shame, vulnerable to trolls and half-wits who think not knowing something begets ideal target for low class riducule on accord of supposedly implied idiocy of the one that is seeking the answer - that is why we moderate (stop from posting) not only things that are agains netykiette, but also, par example, *any* jokes (there is no joke about sex that haven't been told already in one way or another) - limited irony and innocent jest is of course allowed, otherwise people would vote down the existing moderators and appoint other with more sense on what spirit of the law is about :-}.
As for karma points - if I were the one designing the forum (I do have necessary knowledge and some free time - for Loreena, always ;-}), the more possitive karma points a person has, the more weight the nodes containing creations that can be attributed to them get when considered for displaying in some particular way - writers with good opinion could be selected by readers for first read and having low karma makest 'er postings filtered out of view (hidden), thing that might proove to be useful, whence amount of messages increases - karma police allows also automatic moderation or semiautomatic model of it, that is, if a gentelmen or a lady has high karma (good opinion) their post doth get through moderation without help of moderator (who are assuming that such person won't break the rules for no reason - if she does, her karma may be reduced, no problem) - karma militia points us also toward the system capable to assign automatically rights allowing access to some gold, wine and advanced features of the forum, again - taking some burden of repetitive work from kind Quinlan Road people acting as moderators and programmers.
Karma class system brings also the idea to allow people with certain attitude (chaotic good and lawful good, in terms of Dungeons and Dragons) to group with each other faster that by random discovery - if you talk to someone who is "a Lesser Deity" you can assume that this person will answer your question, even if it requires some work and deliberation, but you will also think twice before you ask and in what manner - one does not waste time of lesser deities with things that can be found in FAQ, regardless of personal rank in secred societies :-}. Negative karma also can be a good thing to possess - people who like to argue and insult each other could receive suggestion from the system to join some Circle of Fire and become a "High Daimonion" or other "Lord of Darkness" - this way QR wouldn't have to be so restrictive and allow to express bad sentiments freely - as long as all is planted in the place such pirate heaven belongs and therewore people who of sensitive nature are not in danger of automatic absorbtion of some flamewar ricochet - as Robert A. Henlein said "Freedom of speech assumes the right not to listen if not interested".
