Thanks for the youtube link. Same melody, two entirely different effects. Ah, the magic of music!

well, Limerick isn't, but a 'limerick' is a type of poem. Antrim is mentioned in Bonny Portmore and Kilkenny is in Carrickfergus

thanks for the additional geographic information, Malin! I'll look into that.

Wow, someone's done his homework. Take a look in the map at the coast in the north of Ireland (I hope I am not telling you wrong. Geography is not my best subject) and you will also find a place called Malin Head. Hihi.

Cello: welcome!

Noël Nouvelet! shares its melody with an easter-themed song called Green Blade. I don't think it's as well known as The Star of the County Down, but I recognized both! anyone else?

I was looking at a map of Ireland recently, and spotted County Down, as well as countless other places from songs including Tipperary, Limerick, Wexford Carrickfergus, Kilkenny, Antrim and Clare (the last five all feature in the titles or lyrics of some of Loreena's songs!)

Hello - I'm new, but couldn't resist jumping right in when I saw a discussion on "The Seven Rejoices of Mary." (Still trying to work the italics) I bought this CD the day it came out, after waiting on tenderhooks for it. I immediately liked this carol, and now, dearly love it. As I play cello and violin, the instrumental arrangement was a lovely as the vocals. Brava,Ms. McKennitt

At me yes. In effect I've noticed a certain analogy between the melodies of "The Seven Rejoices of Mary" and of "The Star of The County Down".
