The listing for "Nights from the Alhambra" on KVIE, Channel 6, the PBS Station serving Sacramento, characterizes the show as: "Folk singer Loreena McKennitt performs at the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain..." rather than as as Celtic singer Loreena McKennitt....
One of the advantages to any artist appearing on PBS is the opportunity to reach a larger audience, who might if they hear some of the artist's music, want to hear more. Other things being equal, the audiance for the program would probably be larger if it were correctly charaterized as "Celtic" rather than "folk" music.
When I called the station a few day's ago and then again today, Tuesday, March 6th, they were especilly emphatic about not intending to correct the mischaracterization of the program. If you live in the KVIE viewing area, which includes Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto, you might want to also contact the station at 916-929-5843 and urge them to correct the listing to show it as a program of Celtic music rather than a program of folk music.
WNET, New York, the producer of the "Great Performances" series correctly lists the program as "Celtic"; as does the San Francisco PBS on their web site. So Sacramento certainly has the ability to do so if they want to.
