I have to vote for more than one instrument, so I am posting this. I play the bodhran (not really good, but not really bad, either), so I have to vote for that. I like the sound of the lute, especially when played by someone who KNOWS how to make it sing and cry -- so that one also gets my vote. And of course there is the harp (both "concert-sized" and "lap-sized", whether gut-strung or wire-strung), because of its heritage and traditionality -- and Loreena plays it -- so that automatically gets a vote.
If you had listed bouzouki, hurdy-gurdy, uilleann pipes, or a few other select instruments, I would had to have voted for them, as well. But if you wish to know which is my
absolute favourite, above all others, I would probably have to say....
