Hi one and all from the flat bit of canada. I too found this message board by accident whilst obtaing the lyrics to 'a mummers dance' as i was a mummer in the uk before moving to canada in 2007. The lyrics are very similar to 'garland gay' which is a trad song. There's a version by Phil Beer which i'll try to drag up. It's also pleasant to see so many people from all over the world on this board. Finally, congratulations to LM herself for providing me with so much musical pleasure over the years. I'm only two years older than LM and it's reassuring to find that she's still going strong after others have pressed the self destruct button...eh?
Thanks for the replies everyone ( and two! ). I'll get round to having a trawl through the past posts one day when i have a stronger wi-fi signal. I'm passing through iowa at the mo' and the signals at the DOT rest areas are as weak as the winnipeg bombers defence. When i mentioned 'self destruct', i probably meant it in all contexts. Other artists that have stayed the course throughout my life have been richard thompson and emmylou harris, Sandy denny died far too young, the wonderful joni mitchell peaked all too soon and annie briggs just threw in the towel and went to live on a farm in the far north of scotland. Perhaps a future topic in the 'general' thread. g'night
I kinda like your expression "others have pressed the self destruct button". I hope you're meaning 'musically' self destruction. Cause I got to think of all that left Earth for eternity (Ian Curtis, Kurt Cobain, and latest Michael Jackson?). Sorry if I sound as I'm without feelings, it's not my intention.
Anyway, a warm welcome to you.
Greetings
Anxious
