Having joined the Loreena McKennitt community only today, I'd like to introduce myself to everyone. As you might have guessed, I am not The Virgin Queen herself. My name is Annika, I'm 19, almost 20 years old and from Germany. I was only introduced to Loreena McKennitt's music some two weeks ago, but I looove it and I can't wait to find out more about her music. Unfortunately, I haven't yet had the time to read all the lyrics to the songs and to do research on them, but that's something I definitely need to get done as soon as possible.
Now, if you have any questions about me, feel free to ask. I'm looking forward to inspring discussions in these forums as well as to getting to know other admirers of Ms. McKennitt's music!
@ Zippy: Thank you very much, this time I found it. Actually I don't like the German version - tooooooo kitchy, as German Volksmusic usually turns out to be - but i listened to the English version as well and I liked that one. It's a very beautiful melody.
@ Jesse: What are you going to study? I'll start with deaf studies and German and then I'll specialize on theatre and my dream is to work as a director with deaf people. Dou you have to pay for university where you live? Here in Germany too, it's 500€/semester, but the money is used reasonably, in my opinion, for student tickets and other things. Thanks for the link, I'll have a look at that.
@ Anxious: Thanks, my trip was fantastic. I LOVED Edinburgh so much. It was a shame that we only got to spend 2 days there. Then I was camping and had quite a few adventures. Got lost in a forest, almost drowned in a non-waterproof tent, climbed Mount Doom etc. It was heaps of fun. And eventually I was in London for one and a half days and could see Helen Mirren on stage once again. *sigh* *in love* I definitely have to go back to Edinburgh- It was so great to walk along those historical steets where my dear cousin, Mary Queen of Scots, had set step on as well. And I DESPERATELY want to see the Highlands. How have you spent you summer so far? Any exciting trips as well?
@ An-da-shealladh: Thanks for welcoming me. i certainly expect to have a lot of fun in this community. And about living wisely - well, I try my very best!
@ Imelda: Hey honey! I'm back, as you might have realized!
Hi, here is Elizabeth's most favoured lady in waiting speaking, who introduced Loreena to Her Majesty during that trip to Transylvania. Beth darling, I am anxiously waiting for your return from Scotland.

I think it started around 2003 or 04, when a friend and I were on a trip through England and one of the CDs we listened to was Book of Secrets. I believe I quite liked it back then, but as time went by it was fotgotten. Then, not long ago, my best friend tried to persuade me that Loreena looked like Helen Mirren. I watched some videos at youtube and didn't like it too much. Finally, 2 or 3 weeks ago i was on a trip to Roumania with my best friend and she made me listen to Elemental and Nights from the Alhambra in the car. I can tell you, there is no better way to get into new music than listening to it while travelling. Loreena's voince just fit into that mountainous landscape of Transylvania. I absolutely loved it.
Nice that you finally came to appreciate her music.

See you all in a week then, folks! Anni
I hope you'll have a nice trip to Scotland. I've always wanted to pay it a visit too. But it must wait until I can actually finance the trip.

Same! I start Uni in February...IF I have enough money...and I'm very nervous! I'm sure it will be heaps of fun though. As I actually said in my last post here, the production was aparody of the Eurovision Song Contest. Here is a link to the official website, but be warned: it should not be viewed by anyone who has never watched TV after 7:30pm...it contains a slight amount of adult innuendo EUROBEAT! Does that answer your question?

I don't seem to having much luck with my links, so here's one final attempt!. if it doesn't work, then search 'eva lind elizabethan serenade' on youtube. zippy.
Hello Zippy, thank you very much for welcoming me. What you said about that song seems really interesting. I'd like to see that video, but unfortunately the link you posted doesn't work for me.

May I call you that? The other is so formal... That was my first question for you... But it doesn't mean you can avoid my mandatory question for all noobs:
How did you find - no wait! - How did the music of ms. McKennitt find you?
Anxious 2 find out...
The fun surely starts here.

HI Anni Elizabeth. Welcome to the board. When i was but knee high to a grasshopper in the uk in the 1950's, this following song was a minor hit in the uk but very big in germany. I had to do some research to dig it out, but it was written by an englishman, Ronald Binge in the early 1900's and therefore had elizabeth the first in mind, but the fischer chore set it to german lyrics on the coronation of elizabeth the second. I just love the way Eva Linde changes octaves with effortless precision. You will hear none finer this side of the pecos mountains. BB Zippy
@ Ramona: We are glad to hear that. Elizabeth Regina
@ Jesse: Thanks for your warm welcome. Your production seems indeed quite funny. What was it about? I'm from Bochum, that's in west Germany, an hour or so north of Cologne. But actually I will move to Hamburg in a month or two because I'm starting my studies at university there. I'm sooo glad to move out finally
Oooh, a newbie! Great to meet you, so glad that Loreena's music is spreading (if, unfortunetly, only slowly, especially in Australia). Where abouts in Germany are you from? I played a German person in our school's production recently. It was a take-off of the Eurovision Song Contest and I was one of the German trio 'Nepotism' who performed a 'post-industrial, post-post-modernist movement sequence'!!! it was heaps of fun!
Thanks for joining us here, I hope you have heaps of fun!
BIG HUG from Jesse
