As many of you may know, Alan Stivell had a big influence on Loreena's music. Some days ago I made a small research on his music and I found some lovely songs that I thought you might like. He sings in French, English, Breton (a Celtic language which is still spoken) and other languages. He is considered a very important figure in the rebirth of the Celtic harp and music around the world. I hope you like the following selections I've made for you, I think we need many people like him and Loreena, people that have a serious commitment with culture and tradition (and nature, which was very important in the Celtic culture, for example in the old religion of the druids), things that in my opinion our modern materialistic 'civilization' doesn't take very much into consideration.
Enjoy!

Wow! This is incredible, I've found a duet featuring Carlos Núñez (an amazing and famous Celtic musician from Galicia, Spain) and Alan Stivell: a song that has a name in Galician, 'A noite pecha', included in a cd called 'Almas de Fisterra' (Souls of Fisterra) by C. Núñez!

It is nice to know how you discovered him (and that some of you know him a lot better than me)!!! Eeker I first heard about Mr Stivell when Loreena came to Barcelona and made an interview about 2 years ago, I hadn't realized how great is Alan's work, too. I am glad you all enjoyed the videos, it is fun and interesting seeing him dressed up like, I might say, a bard in the third one. However, I prefer Loreena's harp sound, ha, ha, but I am glad the repertoire of cd's for my car has become a little bigger Cool ! Again, thank you for your replies, hugs!

Thank you Manel!

At last I got a chance to Watch the links...

I came across Alan Stivell when I searched for Loreena McKennitt - so for me it was the opposite as you luke.

So I should be thankful to ms McK. Big Grin

I really like his music. So refreshing, in the musical way that he gathers instruments that usually isn't playing together.

Well, thanks again for bringig it up.

Greetings

Wonderful Manel! Thank you for sharing these!
Traditional artists like this are so important in that they keep Celtic music fresh but who still remain true to it's roots.
Excellent!!

Alan Stivell is a musician and harpist of genius. I've being listening to him since I stumbled across a couple of his early recordings at the local library years ago.

Just listen to his artistry on his recording of Ys and you'll know what I mean.

Thank you for introducing this musician to me. I had never heard of him before, and find his music very Celtic to me. Smiler

Hi there,

This was pretty good. Thank you for sharing. His sound, reminds me of the Orient. I love how he peforms with the Harp on a stand. I have not seen the harp being played in a standing position. How innovative! Big Grin
