That's funny...I drove my parents nuts with the same song! Then
I switched to Mr. Tamborine Man and drove them nuts with that.
Dennis, get out of my head! Mr. Tambourine
didn't come until later.
Actually, another one of my fav songs as a child was "You are my sunshine". I couldn't escape
this song, it was my mother's favourite, where my grandmother played it on the piano, and my Aunt could be heard humming it
upstairs. So yes, there was a lot of sunshine there with the hammer...
You ARE my Sunshine Shannon! The most famous of the
A.P. Carter Family songs. I always warm up with either Sunshine or Wildwood Flower. Nobody in my family was musically inclined,
including me, so it's always a struggle to learn something new. When Loreena says music found her, it runs away from me screaming.
I'm always kind of envious (not really, just can't think of a better word) of those like Loreena who can do it so easily.
She can pour so much passion into the simplest melodies. Even though, I wonder how many people appreciate, along with natural
ability, how hard Loreena works at it. With regard to the new release....I'll take 10.
Since I did this post, I thought I'd do a little research.
For years I thought "You are my Sunshine" was an original by A.P. Carter, founder of the famous Carter family, but apparently
it isn't. Authored by some guy I've never heard of. At least, that's what Wikipedia says. Learn something every day...

I'll sing it in the evening..."
I can understand why you both love this song.
Although I didn't know this singing
group before, I still hope she may rest in peace.
Oh, I sang it all right...I sang it in my dreams too. Heh.
I guess there are some songs that a child can never fully forget, until another one comes along.

It's
a hammer of justice It's a bell of freedom It's a song about love between my brothers and my sisters all over this
land...
It's an old song written in the 40's by Pete Seeger. Peter Paul & Mary made it popular
and Trini Lopez still plays it all the time, along with "Lemon Tree", also covered by P,P,&M. Old Pete (90 years old) happens
to be in town this weekend for the annual Monterey Jazz Festival and he'll no doubt play it. How it qualifies as jazz is beyond
me, but, what the hey... If you've ever seen "Play Misty for Me", there are scenes with Clint Eastwood walking around the
Jazz Fest that year. They have it at the Monterey Fairgrounds, the same place where they had the Monterey Pop Festival in
1967, where Jimi Hendrix burned his guitar and The Who introduced American audiences to musical instrument destruction.

P.S. "If I had a hammer" was
the first song I ever sang obsessively, in my Uncle's carpentry garage. Pitching it with a harmonica, I almost drove him crazy.
And then I moved to Canada and pitched in the guitar. It was just one of those songs that couldn't be forgotten I guess.
I hope Mary has a good chuckle with this.
