To all of my fellow Loreenakateers:
Our beloved Canadian singer has very enjoyed the uniqueness of people from various races and ethnic backgrounds and thus providing a taste of each in her music. So, in the spirit of Loreena McKennitt's love for cultural diversity, openness to the world and her desire for peace among cultures and creeds, this post will be discussion about the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Now, is anyone here on this forum watching the Olympics? Feel free to post something about the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Recently I read that Loreena, as a young adult, received a Bronze medallion in lifesaving swimming courses. That's not like Olympics, but it is always a medallion! Wink

Anxious 2 and Ramona, you folks have good sense of humour. As for you, Anxious 2, of what you said about Ms. McKennitt doing piano boxing, that would be something you would see in a cartoon--a piano with an angry face and having feet and white gloved hands and Loreena with boxing gloves and in a costume a la Wonder Woman. Ramona, a high accordian jump sounds funny. I can picture Loreena doing that. Loreenya

My pick is her swimming is the 100 meter freestyle. --Loreenya

And what about Cirque Du Soleil? they're Canadian too, aren't they? they should perform at the opening or closing ceremonies as well...maybe they could do a combination and Loreena could provide the soudtrack to a Cirque routine! now that would be spectacular! Wink

Someone send the link to this webpage to the IOC!!! Big Grin

Oh, guess what I saw on TV just recently? Considering that Ms. McKennitt is from Canada, she would be happy to know that her fellow Canadian (actually Quebecois) Alexandre Despatie won a silver medal in Diving. I could see that smile on her face. Gee, I wonder if Loreena McKennitt is watching the Olympics on her TV set at her home. --Loreenya

Dear Loreenya,
actually I'm on my way home from china as I type this! I have been running festivals in Chengdu in conjunction with the olympics.
as the winter olympics are in canada in two years, I think Loreena should perform at the opening or closing ceremony!!!
what do you think of that idea?

Hi freesoul

I feel fine not having a TV. It steels to much of my time.
If I start feeling a little behind on what in t6he world's going on, I read the newspaper or go to the net.

It makes me a little depressed seeing the news on TV. I think they mostly show the misery in the world. All the wars, weather catastrophes, always people in bad luck, etc.

I think it's a kind of shield.
I get so emotional when I see something I think is teerible or unfair. Frowner

Hi again

I too thought it would be strange if there wouldn't be enough to come watch the olympics. It's such a great event.

My point in writing my previous message was, that it's frightening what a negative mood the press can make.
Maybe it's because the Olympics has been way above expected, and then they have to find some bad things to prove their claim before the Olympics started, and lower there own guilt of being wrong.
I can't know for sure of course.

I hadn't heard anything about recruiting volunteers to fill empty spaces. I doubt that would be true, as I'm sure there wouldn't be any problem selling tickets to these events, at least certainly not the opening ceremony.

As for not letting the actual singer not do the performance, yes, it is a bit unfair to the girl who did the actual singing. OTOH, it was a production and the producers had every right to make things look and sound the best. You know, that wasn't Audrey Hepburn singing in "My Fair Lady". If the producers had said whoever sings the best will also be the one flying, then it would be wrong if they went back on that, but I don't know if such a promise was given.

Anxious,

I heard the same on tv, about the little girl who pretended to sing, as the real singer didn't have a nice physical appearence!
Aside from this fact and some other likely shortcomings it is going on quite succesfully.
Another Italian athlete has won today too!
