hmmm... I can't remember when exactly I discovered Loreena but I'm 16 now (17 in a few weeks) My first discovery of Loreena McKennitt was brief. I think it was in 2005 in which I was 14. I was on an online occult shop that carried all sorts of music. I saw "The Mask and Mirror" and was very intrigued by the woman on the cover with the beautiful tapestry so I clicked it. It offered samples of "The Mystic's Dream" and "Full Circle" I clicked on TMD and fell under some spell that I had never felt about any music. I listened to the sample again and went about my searching on the site for other items... Then I think a few months later it was now 2006 I went back to the site and went to the mask and mirror... anyway one thing led to another and I asked my mother if she would buy it for me from amazon.com When it arrived I immediatly listened to every song and LOVED them all! long story short I discovered Loreena and have as of now heard most of her music and have sadly misplaced The Mask and Mirror or it was stolen which is a possiblity since I took it to school several times to share the goodness with my teachers! I want to save up and buy all of her albums at the same time! I'll stop writing now. (I have to stop abruptly or I never shut up Big Grin
Blessed Be
)O(

I'm celebrating two years as a fan, so I guess I was 15 when I watched my father go through his cds, coming back with Book of Secrets in his hands, saying: "You might like this, it's... you know, something different. Listen to the third song."

- I refused to listen to The mummers' dance, the intro was too lengthy. I laugh at that now. I listened to Highwayman instead, and well...
Since that day I am a fan for life. Shortly after discovering Loreena's music I found myself. I found an encouragement to do new things and to look at the world in a different way than before. I can't help wondering what hopes, what dreams I would have had right now if I would never had been introduced to her music. I'm just thankful.

Love,
Malin

I first learned about her music in a documentation film about bears which was broadcast in Germany a few years back. I think it was either music from 'Mummer's Dance' or 'The Visit'.
This was the first time, I actually bought the CD after having heard it in a film. But what an experience.

If only I could remember the TV station, exact film title or something about that film.

Best wishes

It was about the time I became interested in the Renaissance Festival world for the second time -- the first being while I was stationed in Alaska (USAF) -- and I found a cassette tape copy of "The Visit", I think. That or it was "The Mask and The Mirror". I am 44 now, but since I am not really sure which album I found first I checked the "20 to 29" selection in the poll (I do know it was the late 1980's/early 1990's, though *g*). I don't really have a "favorite" tune, but I do like the instrumentals better for some reason -- although when Ms. McKennitt sings, I can't help but listen! I just wish that I could listen to her music more often while working -- it is hard to hear anything over the *bangbangbang* of the punch-presses and the shear, though.

I first heard her music at a now-defunct music store, the fist minute or two of the track "The Mystic's Dream". I had to leave very soon, too soon for me to hear the rest of that album they were playing there, but I knew I needed that album.

Back when I was a little kid, someone lent one of Loreena's CDs to my parents, and I remember becoming transfixed by "The Bonny Swans". After that I lost track of LM, but always remembered that one song specifically. I didn't come back in contact with Loreena's music again until I was about twelve or so, and again a year later when I was given her Live in Paris and Toronto album as a gift. Haven't stopped listening to it since!

Without digging out the CD's Mask and the Mirror was released about 96. I first heard Loreena right after that album was released.

40 give or take a year. At this age a year give or take dosen't mean much.

Hello there boy! I'm 17 (nearly 18) too, and i discovered Loreena about 2 years ago... Seems there's something about the age of 15. You get to choose between music that-expires-in-about-a-month-or-two and music you-will-love-to-listen-to-your-whole-life! Well we know we chose correctly...

I had listened to Marrakesh Night Market [rather popular here in Greece] a few years before I heard about Loreena. Then one day a friend of mine came with an audio cassette that had some of her songs and that was it. It was a few days after my 19th birthday, if I remember correctly
I still remember the cashier's face when I went to pay for some cds and after 3 heavy metal albums was The Visit :P

I discovered Loreena's music one night in 1992 when I came across The Visit in a local record store. I had never heard of Loreena McKennitt but I loved the image of her on the back of the CD, standing in the doorway with the little "witches brooms" on either side of her. I bought it, brought it home, and listened to it that night. Immediately, I was entranced by All Soul's Night, and how her music spoke to my pagan soul. By the end of the album, Cymbeline, I was spellbound and a devoted fan. I searched out Elemental, To Drive the Cold Winter Away, and Pararllel Dreams. I even picked up Donna Read's Goddess video series in which Loreena's music appears; The Goddess Remembered; The Burning Times; and Full Circle. I am now completely devoted to her and her music, and have read many of the books that have inspired her muse. I am pleased and amazed to see that the majority of fans on this website discovered her music when they were 19 or under (I was 29). It gives me great hope for the future. Bless you all.
