I've never been on a chat site before, so I'm learning a few things here, thanks Anxious for your words of encouragement regarding my earlier post. I was drawn to this site because LM is such a wonderful person. Initally her music, voice, lyrics touched my soul---then her kindness and compassion for others touched my heart. Obviously Loreena is an imspiration to her fans. For me, I've finally started taking piano lessons. Just had my fourth and am coming along nicely. I know I've got a long way to go til I can play any of her songs, but her music sure does keep me motivated to learn more. As someone who has always loved learning about history, literature, other lands, science (I could go on and on), Loreena's music and travels as well as poetry set to music have all been a catalyst to further my knowledge of these subjects and many more. I enjoy painting and drawing, as do many of her fans, and her music is perfect to paint to and draw inspiration from. I could go on and on, but my question for LM's fans is .....What has Loreena McKennitt ispired in you?

I' affected the same way. I hope those bad things are out of your life, Nichya.
For 4 years if I listened to any music that didn't make my mind think of my story then I couldn't listen and became iratated until I heard Loreena singing again. And again and again...
I have over a dozen stories and some were lost due to my computers acting up. I get myself in a "Loreena frame of mind" and start writing until my wrist hurt or I run out of ink. Or my family wants to eat dinner. I always seem to put Loreena's songs into the stories and the caracters love her just as much as I do.
When I create my greeting cards I have a playlist with all of Loreena song I titled Songs for Stamping. Her insperation follows me through out my day.
Peace and Love,
Gina

Loreena has done an excellent job of bringing the past to life.As a woodturner I was drawn to the lyrics of bonnie portmore. There is indeed a reverence for stately trees.English was never my favorite class but I do remember my English teacher pausing upon reading "and the silent isle embowers the Lady of Shalotte".She was emphasizing the genius of the poet.Who would have thought "old poetry" would be a turn on but Loreena did so through music. Thanks Loreena..You have a beautiful, dynamic voice.

Loreena is my biggest musical inspiration, and I'd love to cover some of her songs in a recording, if I ever have the time or money for such a project.
She has been a great help in some homework I had recently where I had to discuss place-inspired artists. With her musical travel writing, I thought she'd be the perfect example!
Also, I've created some visual artworks inspired by her songs. You can check them out on DeviantArt:
Deep as the Wine-Dark Sea (inspired by Penelope's Song)
Samain Night (inspired by...well, Samain Night!)

Good day Kim... You will find Anxious is a kindred spirit here on these boards....as are so many....always one the first to greet, wish well, and stop in to check on you.....Hey A!

What has Loreena Inspired in me? Interesting.

I have used her music (or Craft) to help soothe mind, body and soul when time does get to those points where I start to feel life around me closing in to tightly. Life is very good, but we all have our dealings with parts about it.

I am always one to be positive and encouraging, yet I think she as an artist, living life with great resolve and integrity has Inspired me to continue life as I have been living it, to keep my love of all things in tact and to help treat our earth and Earthly community with due dignity and respect. I think she has helped me, in a strange manner, to find I have been in positive contact with life and how I go about it. Not that i have not had bad in my time, but I feel I have been blessed...Man I dont want to bore you or anyone.....BUT I like this topic. There is a group, The Moody Blues. I have aged with them being a BIG part of my life and enjoyment of life. They too have lived life as such as Loreena in many ways. Under the radar, with Great integrity and ethic, and to appreciate life....If you are not a follower of this group...its hard to explain. But people looked to them in odd manner at times, like they were the Christ...they were going to provide lifes answers....

Loreena Mckinnett, how I come to view she has lived life, and her music has brought added riches to my life, inside and around me. I have used this to help inspire my daily life...

Have you seen this Creed? Smiler This is from Loreena....

Be compassionate and never forget how to love.
Think inclusively.

Reclaim noble values such as truth, honesty, honor, and courage.

Respect one's elders and look to what they have to teach you.

Be empathetic.

Look after the less fortunate in society.

Promote and protect diversity.Respect the gifts of the natural world.

Set your goals high and take pride in what you do.

Cherish and look after your body, and, as the ancient Greeks believed, your mind will serve you better.

Put back into the community, as there have been those before you have done the same and you are reaping what they sowed.

Participate in and protect democracy, it does not thrive as a spectator sport.

Undertake due diligence in everything.

Seek balance and space, and solitude.

Don't be afraid to feel passionate about something.

Learn to be an advocate and an ambassador for good.

Be mindful of your limitations.

Indulge and nurture your curiosity, as it will keep you vital.

Take charge of your life and don't fall into the pit of entitlement.

Assume nothing and take nothing for granted.

Things are not necessarily what they seem.

Smiler I have shared these words with many of my dearest friends....These words from Miss McKennitt have helped inspire me to life with constant appreciate of everthing around me no mater how large or how small...Mountain or blade of grass....Examine and appreciate each..

I have said too much already...My apologies to all...I need to lace up the Puma's and run a few miles this morning....Smiler with my I-Pod full of Loreena's music and the Moodys....

Be well...Walk in Peace...and be kind to our Earth....everyday... An-Da

I'd say Loreena has broadened my horizons in a cultural sense. I think I've been more inclined to try new things, like new types of music, new foods, etc. So thank you very much!

Hi Lizjul

So finally I took the time to read your story.

It is very fine.
I really like your reflection - Yes, an ordinary person doing some extraordinary things. - on ms McK saying 'I'm just an ordinary person'.
You nailed it! It's nice to have someone like you to describe in words, what I've thought since I first read ms McK said that sentence.

Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Big Grin

Many blessings

Anxious 2

Hi Freesoul,

And thank you. I had written a variation of it in my "welcome" blog, which I'm sure is the one you read. I had written the detailed version originally for a couple of friends, (the one on my personal blog) after I went to the concert. I sent them a newsletter so to speak. I wrote about my experience at the concert and I actually wrote an article on Loreena, the musician and business person. These folks were not familiar with Loreena or her music. So it was nice to give a bit of background and details. I did add a few things I had forgetten to the one on my personal blog. It was pretty neat reliving it again! Big Grin Big Grin

Thank you very much, Lizjul, great story and very nice pics. However, I had already read it, as I suppose you already pasted the link in another topic, but I can't remember where Roll Eyes.
Have you written it recently, or at that time? If now, your memory is really good! Wink
I'd like to attend a meet & greet too.
Best.

Dear Kimberly26,

Thank you for this this blog. This is a nice question to ask. Anxious2 was curious about what I wrote to a group of my pals as a result of being inspired from the very first Loreena McKennitt concert I attended. So below is a link of how the story went. I would like to share it with all of you. I have two pictures of Loreena at that concert. I hope that Quinlan Road is ok with this. I sent a message but I don't think it went through. But in any case, this link will lead you to my personal blog. I hope you like it. It sometimes makes me laugh actually.
