In my Women in European History class on Tuesday, my professor showed this video, The Burning Times, which is a documentary discussing women during the Witch Craze. (I highly recommend the video, it is very informative, heart wrenching, and empowering all at the same time!)
I knew that I recognized the video name but I couldn't remember where, before it started, my Professor said "the voice singing at the start of the video is that of Loreena Mckennitt, anyone familiar with her?" I was so excited! Her vocals, I believe she was performing Santiago at the start, added so much to the tone/mood for the rest of the film. It was magical!

Edit: actually the song was "tango to evora" whoops

Originally posted by Greyhawk: There is also a book entitled 'the burning times', it follows the story of one woman, one with the gift of sight, and her struggle to survive during Europe's witch trials. It is a fictitious account, and one that most would call fantastical, although it you follow the old religion, there is nothing in the book that is overly uncommon or difficult to believe. I can't remember the name of the author, but they actually had it at my local library, so it must be a relatively popular book

I'm not sure but I think I have read this book, does it also talk of the woman's mother who was a healer and was accused of being a witch by the townspeople and put through horrible questioning sessions? I don't want to give away the ending, just wondering if it was the same one!

Thre is a Song called "The Burning Times", but the group that plays it is Inkubus Sukkubus, the Album where you can find it are: "Beltaine" and in the almbun "Wytches".
I dont know any Loreena´s song about the burning times.
The Burning Times is part of a three part documentary by CBC, directed by Donna Reed. The other two are called, "Return of the Goddess" and "Full Circle". They both are as good as the "The Burning Times". The historical facts in the films hooked me into that part in time and made my love her Loreena's music even more deeper. Also, Donna Reed and Starhawk made another documentry of the lady who started the research and is just as informative to the distant past that we have lost and I need to get in touch with. Loreena helps with that too. Happy watching!!! Love, Gina

I'm jealous! I'd love to meet another fan at school.
It's funny that LM didn't mention this in the address made in one of the FAQ's. There was some question about "surprise" songs or something along those lines. Hmmm.
Off to rent The Burning Times!
