I realised that here in Greece, most of the people who listen to rock, heavy, death or any kind of metal, etc, like Loreena's music, (I listen to chosen rock music myself). I have a friend whose best band is Manowar! (He listens to Loreena too, that's why i mention him.) My father, when i told him about that, said that Lora is the balsam for their ears after listening to "hail'n'kill" for instance! What about you?

Besides Loreena Mckennitt I also listen to Celtic artists like Lunasa, Silly Wizard, and Jennifer White. Besides Celtic music, I listen to a variety of what can be classified as World music like the African Voices CD, Songs of Life, Rajaton and Jesse Cook. I also listen to Jeff Buckley, Gordon Lightfoot, Damien Rice, and Rufus Wainwright. I don't know if anyone here has heard of Rajaton, but they are fantastic! They are a Finnish vocal group with six members and they sing a cappella. You can find their music at Freds Records if you are in Canada like me.
I also listen to a very broad range of music encompassing many different genres. I guess it depends on my mood or just what I feel like . I think it comes down to I like music of all types as long as the musicians are good at their craft and the inspiration flows through. Not sure if that makes sense.
I like a lot of different kinds of music. My heart-music is traditional Irish (Altan, Solas, Karan Casey, Paul Brady, Andy Irvin), I listen to a bit of Medieval stuff (Mediaeval Baebes, La Notta), lots of traditional Chinese and Japanese; Japanese rock/pop (Gackt, Utada Hikaru, L'arc-en-Ciel). I love soundtracks from video games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Cross (beautiful Celtic influence there). It's fun to have a CD player that plays Loreena McKennitt, Final Fantasy, Lord of the Rings and Gackt...
I think it's interesting to see the ecclectic mix of people's tastes. :-D

Might i add some more secret garden songs that are definitely worth listening to?(even though mihalis already covered the basics...!): (from the album"songs from a secret garden"-of course...-): pastorale, atlantia and adagio. Quite relevant to secret garden is maire brennan, whom i already mentioned before(as far as i know, she's enya's sister, former lead vocal in the band'clannad')and whose voice is absoutely breathtaking.try listening to "coinleach glas an fhomhair" from "clannad greatest hits",it's really worth it...you can also listen to maire in "king arthur" ost song,"tell me now(what you see)" Well,i think that should be enough...for now...!

Originally posted by Cocoa: My favourite artsits are Loreena, Enya and Áine Minogue(An Irish harpist and singer). I just find that people who love Enya's music would also love Loreena's...
Cocoa, you are right, a lot of people who love Loreena also enjoy Enya. Me, I could listen to Loreena night and day but Enya, not so much. I don't know why she just doesn't grab me like Loreena does.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Sarah McLachlan yet. She also has haunting melodies and soulful lyrics. Another one of my faves. And another Canadian.
I must say I really, really love the Austrian musical Elisabeth. It has the most eclectic, most moving music I ever heard. Anyone here likes Elisabeth the musical as well?
Me too, Viyanna! I saw Elisabeth twice in Vienna (about 10 years ago and last year). It's my favourite musical. Besides the great music I love the stage settings and the costumes.

Hey everyone! my first post on this site! I had been a super Loreena fan for 6 years now!
Talking about my other favorite music, I love to listen to celtic and new age music a lot!but I must say I really, really love the Austrian musical Elisabeth. It has the most eclectic, most moving music I ever heard. Anyone here likes Elisabeth the musical as well?
As for my favorite singers, other than Loreena, it is the Dutch musical star Pia Douwes! She is the only female voice other than Loreena that has such goddess quality.

hum, I listen to so many kinds of music. I love Stabbing Westward, I also like to listen to Silverstein and Thursday. Then there's the Lord Of The Rings soundtracks and that classical stuff. Mozart's flute concertos are also really good! Bought the cd lately. Then I go into my culture, the French Canadian music. .. So many more but I can't write everything down ^^"

Years ago I used to be a new wave fan, listening to bands like Visage, Adam Ant, Lene Lovich etc. The only remainder is Toyah (yes the one with the orange-purple-red-whatsoever coloured hair), still love her music.
I also came across Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan through Loreenas descriptions and love his music whenever I want to forget about the world and its hectic living. If anyone would like to try his music, I'd advise (personal opinion) to avoid those remixed sort of dance-style recordings - get the original ones!

Nor am I bound to one kind of music. Actually, I love to listen to other styles of music too such as Suzanne Vega, Michelle Shocked, Luka Bloom, Alanis Morisette, Live, Florent Pagny, Norah Jones and lots of other artists and bands, but the list is too long to even mention in here. I believe that being open minded to other stuff lets you enjoy all the more listening to music. But Loreena's music is and will stay on top of my favorites'.

I was weaned on the 1st Sabbath album and others such as Deep Purple In Rock. (I'm giving my age away here..
Over the years my ears got broader, I have a large vinyl/CD collection, with large amounts of prog rock, acid folk, dub/rooots regae, even some trance and beats & Abba.. My motto these days is if I like it, I buy it..
My Intro to Loreena was a chance buy from a second hand record shop in Ipswich (UK) that was the Mask & Mirror in approx 1995.. and the rest has become History
