Hi!!! I need a help!! This month I have an exame of "Studi of Popular Music" at the university and I have to analyse a song
(I can choose it). I decided to analyse "Greensleeves" by Loreena McKennitt. Over the text, I must analyse the music and the
instruments playied in the song.
I have just a problem at the beginning of the song: b side the piano, cello, guitar
I hear a sound that seems a keybord (or Synth) but very very soft......Do you know what is it?
One more thing: in the
booklet of the CD the visit....at the instruments section of "Greensleeves", it is written that Loreena plays "keyboards",
but when I heard the song, it seems a piano.
Keyboards can do a lot of things. There was a keyboard I took piano lessons on a few years ago and we had it set to produce
two sounds at once: the sound of an acoustic piano, and a "pad" underneath it. Combined, they produce a very similar sound
to the piano/synth sound on Greensleeves so I would think Loreena was using a similar instrument that could play multiple
layers of sound (The song was recorded 21 years ago, however, so I doubt it would be the same make of keybord). Either
that or she recorded the synth sound, and then the piano sound on top of it later, but as the liner notes say "we recorded
this in one take" I think the latter situation is the less likely of the two.
Hope that helps!

I'm not entirely sure since I haven't seen her perform the piece, but it makes the most sense. I did hear a synth and
it's a keyboard instrument just like a piano is.

Thanks for your help. Yes, I have the original album and booklet....but I think that there are maybe synthesizer...I'm non
sure, in the booklet it is not written, so maybe there aren't them. Dani7 are you sure Loreena plays synth?
Do you have the actual CD, or did you download it? If you have the actual CD, just look at the pamphlet and at the end of
the lyrics, it should have the instruments played, and by whom. If not, just follow this link: The Visit CD Booklet You should find it on Page 4 of 6. Hope that helps!

I had to do the same kind of project last year, so I know what you're going through.
I'm not sure which sound you mean...but
if it's that "fluttering" noise it sounds like it could the cello.
I'd say that it's listed as keyboards because LM
is playing both a synthesizer and an electric keyboard (as opposed to an acoustic piano), since the synth could sit right
on top of it.
