Loreena’s in-studio performance for NPR Weekend Edition

Loreena McKennitt recently recorded an in-studio performance for the programme Weekend Edition Sunday, which is broadcast on National Public Radio (NPR) in the United States. Her performance, along with an interview, will air on NPR on Sunday November 4, 2007. (Times vary according to the broadcast schedules of local stations).

Accompanied by Brian Hughes, Hugh Marsh and Caroline Lavelle, Loreena recorded performances of the songs “Bonny Portmore”, “Penelope’s Song” and “Stolen Child” in NPR’s Washington DC studios during an autumn tour of the US in October 2007.

LM's singing voice is beautiful, so it's hardly surprising to hear the same lovely cadence and pitch in her speaking voice. I pick up the Canadian intonations, coupled with a faint accent remniscent of the British Isles. NPR's Liane Hanson seemed tickled when LM clarified that her band members are more appropriately deemed "musical companions." The companions joined LM in performances of "Bonny Portmore," "Stolen Child" and "Penelope's Song." Excellent interview, albeit rather short. It's always a pleasure to hear LM.
