Hi All;

Loreena’s Music is Eclectic Celtic. What are your other Celtic Music favorites? No matter traditional or modern for me, i can listen to all but want to hear little bit bagpipe sound, and want to see Celtic Spirit in them. 2 years ago i had listened to “Greensleeves” from “Bagpiper Michael Lancaster”; i didn’t know him before, just wrote “Celtic Music” searched and found him and some other names (i can't remember them now) but their music seemed to me pop, rock. I liked that instrumental Greensleeves too but Loreena sings it wonderful.

In other words; which Celtic Music singers and songs should we listen to?

"The Jig of Life" by Kate Bush from Hounds of Love. It's Celtic in essence, from an album that really isn't Celtic at all, but is genius. The song is also quite catchy. I think it was recorded in Ireland but I'm not sure.

If You like LM than you should listen to Fairport Convention's "Leige and Leaf" Album with Sany Denny from the early 1970'S ? I just checked and you can get it from amazon

Yes That album is brilliant. Also try the album "Fotheringay" by Fotheringay also featuring Sandy Denny on vocals and anything by Shelagh McDonald.

Hi Izarriel;

Have you liked "milladoiro"? What is exact name of that CD? What do you want to say more about Galician music?

Greetings

Yavuz

Hello Yavuz

It was pure hazard when I bought this CD . it is called "O nino do sol" (the nest of the sun)
i saw there is a video on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ5NtUSQX4E
I like this CD from Milladoiro and music from Carlos Nunez. But i would be unable to speak about galician music. There is other people,here, that came from Galicia and would speak about it better than I can do.

Hello Gawayne;

I heard Medieval Babes but didn't listen to them before. After reading your post i visited their website tonight; they are interesting, which language(s) do they use in their songs? I listened to example song named "temptasyon", not "temptation", do you know why? They are nice and successful girls thanks for your recommendation.

I think the question was answered very well by Artur. It is true that they are not strictly Celtic, but I mentioned them because I thought they may be of interest to students of folk music in general. I am glad that you enjoy them!

Maybe I didn't read the posts very carefully but I didn't see anywhere Eileen Ivers mentioned...

Eileen Ivers is an excellent celtic perfomer, a wonderful musician. This lady makes you love celtic sound even more.

There's Dead Can Dance too influenced by celtic legacies.

Don't forget Anne Briggs, Runrig, Johnny Moynihan, John Whelan, The Pogues, Chieftains and so on..

The Mediaeval Baebes cover, as the name suggests, music from the Mediaeval Period of history. The languages used in the songs range from Old English to Latin, with some songs in French or German -- some songs are in Modern English for the convenience of the listener, though; if it is from the Middle Ages, they will probably have recorded a version of it, or are currently working on it. Here in the U.S.A., there are people who want to make "English" the Official National Language -- and I ask them "Which version of 'English' do you refer to, Old, Middle, Elizabethan, Victorian or Modern?".

Anyway, yeah, the Mediaeval Baebes are good, and they produce some marvelously intricate harmonies, but they cannot be considered "Celtic" in the same sense as Ms. McKennitt or Carlos Nunez being Celtic. At least, that's my opinion.

Hello Urumelili!

I didn't know that Bridin was the feminine form of Brendon! There are a few Brennan sisters I think, one or two have provided backing vocals on Moya Brennans albums.

Have you heard of the Medieval Baebes? They have some good stuff on You Tube!

Hi Elise;

I can't understand one sentence of your post and am pasting it below, can you explain it?

"Dan Ar Braz***, i see his band last summer in brittany, it was good."

I like "Nothing Compares 2 You" (Sinead O'Connor). 18-20 years ago, when i saw her first time on TV i was surprised; she put on a white dress like gown and had no hair. I miss Sinead O'Connor...

Greetings Smiler

Well probably much more, but my minds gone blank!

Did you know that Enya and Moya Brennan have another sister recording -Bridin Brennan with her album "Eyes of Innocence"?

Hi Gawayne;

Moya Brennan-Bridin Brennan. I didn't know that thanks. Brendon is Celtic name? Bridin is feminine form of Brendon? What do you know about that?
