Not too long ago, I came across some rare footage of Loreena McKennitt performing on "The Super Dave Osborne Show" and it can be found on "A Moveable Musical Feast." In this rare piece of footage, Ms. McKennitt plays on her harp when she notices that the platform was inching towards the end of the stage. The whole point is for her to fall off the stage in the middle of her performance. Golly, I was laughing at the part where she jumps off the platform and the harp and the chair crash to the pit below. The audience was laughing, but I was glad they appreciated her talent. (I searched for that episode from the "Super Dave Osborne Show" and I was unable to find it, so I thought I would post this link. Go fast forward about 1:10 and then play it to 1:50)

It's Super Dave's shtick that he starts something perfectly innocently that ends in disaster and everybody laughs. It was a typical Super Dave gag. By the way, Dave is back on TV on the Spike network this month. That guy kills me...

If she wasn't in on the gag....it's not funny. If she was in on it....it's still not funny.

It first I thought it odd to have Loreena on that show. I've seen it and the only performer on it seemed to be K.D. Lange.
As for the stunt, I didn't think it was all that funny, especially when Loreena hurt her back jumping off the platform. I did laugh and still do; as they practiced "The Highwayman" later on. Maybe I am over-protective of Loreena?

But it looked rather fun. It was as if she just realized it in the last moment. A new defenition of getting out to the crowd / over the stage edge.

I actually have A Moveable Musical Feast, and I know exactly which part you are talking about! I thought that was just plain wrong! He should have warned her at the very least! If she hadn't bailed out, she probably would have ended up at the hospital with serious neck injuries. I would be quite surprised if she forgave him for that one!

This is a hard question to answer, considering I haven't see the footage but I would say it depends on her reaction. If The Super Dave Osborne Show is the sort of show that plays pranks on its guests all the time, and Loreena was expecting that this sort of thing would happen, and it wasn't her harp (they look like fairly expensive instruments), and she understood that it was just a joke and was able to laugh along with it, then yes, I would say that this would have been quite hilarious! I'd have to see the footage myself to judge it properly, though!

I did see this on the Moveable Feast DVD. And I did chuckle at the stunt. It was interesting seeing her in a comedic skit.
