Hi there One of my first experiences with Wikipedia.org was when I suddenly realized that I didn't know who the lady singing on "The book of secrets" really was, and I got on a computer and searched for her name on the swedish wikipedia. No article... I found my way to the english wikipedia and voilá; there she was, and I remeber staring for long at the picture of her sitting with hands clasped in her knees with her cascade of hair over her shoulders. To think that it took so long before I discovered her and her other work! I had had TBOS for almost a year (thanks, stepfa).
Before long the article on swedish Wikipedia about Loreena McKennitt saw it's birth. I sat up a long time to make it...I was not used to Wiki at all, but was very determined. I am so proud about the article, please have a look at it! It doesn't look as nice as the english one or any other, but it is made with love
Oooh, coming from way away (Italy) you know very much. Cool. Of course I know of Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet (in english The news of the day and Afternoon papers) It's interesting, because no matter how I keep looking, I see no signs of Loreena in Sweden. Maybe I've got my eyes shut X) It is no use to ask people in my near surrounding... -"Loreena-who?" Or like my friend Anton said the other day on the bus: -"Yeah, right, that red-haired lady...Naree Bennitt or something...." Well, for people only used to say things like "Iron Maiden" and "Metalliga", or "Aeon", it is hard
By the way, I made some drawings the other day that I'd love to show you my fellow forumfolks Someday, maybe...

Last time I forgot another performance Loreena gave in Sweden.
Just a curiosity,it may be of your interest! She held a brief show for journalists only, in the breakfast room at the Strand Hotel of Stockholm. She sang Courtyard Lullaby, Between the Shadows, Stolen Child and The Lady Of Shalott. The show took place on March 31, 1993, and was filmed, so that a brief video clip (just five minutes) was broadcast on Swedish tv on April 4, 1993.
In 1994 two articles about Loreena were released in two Swedish newspapers you know for sure: Nagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet.
While my journeys through internet in order to discover something new about Loreena, I have found out these little pieces of news
Regards!

Thank you You are correct, swedish is a german language, and I have found that we have many words in common (my stepfather is from Germany) or at least it "sounds" alike X) Thanks for the info, I will put down those singles too
quote:
By the way on her past tours, she performed in Sweden a few times: in Lund on April 20, 1994 and in Stockholm on April 24, 1994 during The Mask and Mirror Tour.
Yes, she told me when I met her in London. She put on a bright smile and said: "Oh, I've been to Sweden!" "Really? When?" "Let's see... about ten years ago!" She had performed in Stockholm...our capital, which I had never visited before I went to the airport there to fly to Canada this year! I was of course a little child in 94... and my first idols was Spice Girls, to think.
I see your point, though; I sometimes forget to take in calculation that Loreena was standing back for so long after The book of secrets. (Still, the other day, when the librarian in Östersund proudly said that he had ordered Loreena's latest because he had seen in the register that they hadn't bought any of her recordings since -97, I could tell it immediatly..)
Bästa hälsningar, Malin
(Ps, I too hope she'll come to a place closer to me next time, cause I probaly can't convience my parents to more trips abroad hahaha)

as you advise, I have taken a look at your nice article on our wonderful Loreena. I can really recognize a lovely touch in it, and..no wonder.. Loreena is definitely an inspiration to all of us. It's funny to "see" - I can't say "read" as well unfortunately - an article written in Swedish, given that I don't know it at all. I think it's a Germanic language, isn't it? Some words make me think about corrisponding German words as well as English words, such as "med" that I imagine means "with" (mit in German), or even "varldsmusik", in which there is a clear resemblance to both "world music" and "Weltmusik". Thanks for your post, as it's really interesting. I have always liked discovering these kinds of links and "kinships" among various tongues, because at bottom they have common origins. Anyway, about Loreena, I wanted to say that she released other two single CDs, The Lady Of Shalott in 1991 and Greensleeves in 1992.

Someday maybe Loreena will have enough fans in Sweden to come back here
By the way on her past tours, she performed in Sweden a few times: in Lund on April 20, 1994 and in Stockholm on April 24, 1994 during The Mask and Mirror Tour. If next year she should come back to Europe, who knows...she might choose also a Swedish town, as on North America Autumn Tour she performed in towns not covered on the previous tour in Spring. So, go on hoping....always "with love" (as you say).
all the best!
