It's regretable that so much funding has been withdrawn but it was inevitable with some of the trash that was being funded.
I have no problem with pubic funding of the arts. But when that funding starts supporting political causes it will sooner
or later end up offending the people who write the checks.
I remember when I was a kid when CBS would run young peoples
concerts with Bernstine explaining classical music pieces. That probably sparked my intrest in music. We get too little of
that sort of thing on any outlet today. Shame.

yes I do know about funding by Corpration for P.B. and Endowment for the Humanities-National Endowment for the Arts their
just not giving as much as company's like AMD and BP do with grants and I volumteer for TV (not Radio) but lucky to have 2
NPR stations here in Columbus area.In fact in 1995 when Loreena was on tour and made a stop in Columbus-WCBE did a on air
interview that was well received.the WOSU is PBS and classical NPR though university system and WCBE,NPR is though public
schools systems and has a Blues,Celtic, and World Music ETC and plays Loreena more than the Classical WOSU dose of which
I'd love to find away to get on board with them as a volunteer.Well its still great to have 2 NPR's and one PBS locally IMHO.
Jerry Anytime you see Funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Nationaly Endowment for the Humanities, or National
Endowment for the Arts that is federal money.
The State of Alaska still funds a lot of both radio and television through
direct grants and pass throughs from the university system.
I too was a volinteer for our pubilc radio station till
I got put on a permanent second shift here a while back.
Boy; I would let them know that you were unhappy with your
local lack of music programing durring the November pledge drive. We get a jazz program, Austin City, weekly Great Performances
once a month and then a bunch of stuff durring the pledge drives.

Oldiron It seems less and less is from goverment and more and more from the public and grants from companys then goverment. I
do some volunteer work for local station and have seen it getting harder for stations to get shows.Seeing LM on GP is one
of the best things I've heard about in years.Austin City Limits is about the only show left on PBS here in Columbus area
on music since Soundstage is rarely shown. Wish they'd show BBC world service news more as its less right or left but both
sides as the news hour w/Jim Lehner isn't at a time I can watch.
PBS is where we get some of the BBC programing here in the States. It's the closest thing to the BBC we have here. The network
receives a large part of it's funding from a goverment funded foundation as well as corprate,& private foundations and public
contributions.
For the few of us who still depend on old fashiond broadcast television PBS is our sole source of musical
programing.
In my opinion PBS is the only network for people with more than a grammer school education.
