Hi,
Im new to the Loreena McKennitt club. Like one other person I've seen posted here, I love everything she's done.
I've only just come across LM's music 4 Months ago and have all but the Visit album wich I havent had time to get yet.
Anyhow coming to my point i just ran across a song called "Gloomy Sunday". Its not in her typical style but it sounds like her. Its one of several Loreena McKennitt (myspace.com) sites.

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.vi...le&friendID=74582581 or
http://www.myspace.com/uisdfblbasf

The song is excellent but maybe its not her. Can any one here clear this up (Cough)* moderater
(Cough)*.
Anyway if it is a knockoff- its great. I love blues, and this song is excellent.
Is this on an existing album?
Can Quinlan Road start an actual Myspace.com site officially sanctioned by LM, And, QR or is one of the sites already there the official MySpace.com LM site?. And. Can I be listed as friend?
I had music listed for my site by it was unceremoniously deleted >.< by someone.
Anyway thankyou to the people at Quinlan Road who have been helpfull and great to talk to.

Yes...The two are often confused, and they do sound somewhat similar, but that was Sarah McLachlan. She's another one of my favourites!

Hi there McDoodles,

The song you mention, "Gloomy Sunday", has never been recorded by Loreena McKennitt.

It was made famous by Billie Holiday and has been covered by a number of other artists including Heather Nova and Sarah McLachlan.

Perhaps what you have heard is the version by Sarah McLachlan.

As people who frequent file-sharing sites will know, it is common for tracks offered via P2P to be incorrectly attributed. On top of knowing that you are sharing music without the artist's permission (or without the artist being paid for his or her work), you cannot always be sure that music is exactly as described.

I would recommend visiting the official Loreena McKennitt/Quinlan Road site if you want information about any and all songs and albums she has recorded. All of the albums and tracks are detailed on our Explore The Music pages, and you can hear short samples of every song. You can be sure that the information is correct because it comes directly from us.

We presently have only a placeholder page on MySpace for Loreena McKennitt. We know that MySpace is a very popular and compelling social networking site, and, because it offers artists the opportunity to put up four tracks as streaming media, it is a great tool for new acts to get their music heard and for their page to serve as a hub for online activities when they may not have an official site of their own, or do not have streaming capabilities on that site.

However, it is also true that many long-established and "bigger name" artists do not have a MySpace presence. I think that is probably because many artists - as is the case with us - concentrate their efforts (when time is limited and there are only so many hands on deck) on keeping the artists' official websites up to date and full of as many assets as possible.

I cannot say when or if we will expand our offering on MySpace, but I can say that any other pages on MySpace now or in future that purport to be Loreena's own page are not official, and not endorsed or created by us.

I know that many people think it's fun to become a "friend", via MySpace, of an artist you like, but it's also true that neither Loreena nor we presently have the time to devote to hundreds of friend requests and so on, as would be necessary via MySpace. We also feel that we can offer you much more via our own official website, and this messageboard when it goes live on the official site, than we would via MySpace.

If you want to receive regular updates from us, please sign up to the Quinlan Road Community on our website, and do please continue to visit this messageboard as we look to move it to the main website in the next while.

And just to reiterate, if you have a question about whether a particular song is a recording by Loreena, you only have to look at the official site to verify. You can trust that our information is correct, which cannot be said for what you might find on P2P sites or via MySpace pages or other web pages that are not created or maintained by Quinlan Road.

Thanks for asking!
Karen
