Hi, I'm Arend. I live in the Netherlands, Rotterdam, and am 15 years old (with my birthday coming up on december the 14th). I've pretty much grown up with Loreena McKennitt. My parents are big fans of her, and played her music a lot when I was a little kid. As a result, unlike most teenagers, I do not like rap and R&B. Instead, I love ballads, celtic and rocky songs.
My hobbies are writing, art and webpage designing. I also play harp, preferably Loreena's songs. My favorite Loreena songs are Night Ride Across the Caucasus, Skellig, Dante's Prayer, Lady of Shalott (of which I made a painting that you can view here -- inspired by Loreena and the song) and the very beautiful The Old Ways.
What medium is your painting in? I would say watercolour, but I'm not quite sure. It is certainly a very good painting. Watercolour happens to be my favourite, I've never quite warmed up to oil for some reason, though I intend to practice more with it.

Hello Arend! Since i am quite new in the message board,i just checked your painting and i think it is really beautiful-it seems that loreena has the way to inspire us immensly,is it not?! Furthermore,i should agree with vale saying you're lucky-even though i am quite older than you,i've been a loreena fan for only five years, since i "discoverd" her music on my first year in university, that is...i really wish i had been listening to her songs a lot sooner...just like you did! cheers
Belated welcome. Yes, your painting is beautiful. You are very talented! I love her dress, and the background, especially. Hers is a very poignant story, and I think you've captured that in the whole feel of the background and everything.

Hi Arend! The painting you made is truly BEAUTIFUL, "The Lady Of Shalott" is my all-time favourite by Loreena... so I really really like your work, BRAVO!
I think I can understand you... while my schoolmates listened to Britney and Justin, I had Loreena and Enya in my headphones...
It might be frustrating for a while... it has been for me, but then you'll realize you have made the right choice (at least "musical" choice...). You have been soooooo lucky to have your parents playing Loreena songs since when you were a child! I grew up listening to Joan Baez, Mamas & Papas, Cat Stevens and many italian singers as well... these were my parents' favourites. As a result, I like these singers but I have discovered some others on my own (Loreena, Enya, Sarah McLachlan, Clannad...).
I hope we'll enjoy our time here on QR Message Board!
