Since some time ago I desired to learn to play piano or violin, but by age (33 years), I have never decided.
Curiously, after Loreena's concert and the wonderful performance of Zoltan Lantos, I'm encouraged (I know, I'm crazy) and
I want to take classes. Do any of you plays a musical instrument? Do you started at an advanced age? I would be grateful
if anyone can share their experience, or give any advice.

Indeed.
And generally, to learn something in life. It's true it amy take some time to gather experience, but both the passion for
the instrument and the time will say their word eventually. And it's valid for myself too: I started to study piano at the
age of 17 and I do continue to not regret that at all ; on the contrary, I'm surprised by how the things develop.
It's
wondeful to be able to challenge yourself. And see it succeed.
Indeed ; but above all that, it's wonderful
to learn / do anything you like.

I've been playing Piano for seven years now,
WOW...! Piano is a really beautiful instrument and
once one's letted tempted himself into it's own world, there's no other way out. Such a pity I did not know anyone who plays
Loreena's songs on piano over here *not even many people heard of her * so I could accompany them with my vocals. Good luck with everything!

I've also been inspired by Loreena's use of exotic instruments. I've been playing Piano for seven years now, and I picked
up ukulele on new years eve last year (by that I mean the 31st of December, 2008)
and I've just started learning Bass Guitar, but the instrument I would love to learn the most is SITAR! Don't get me wrong,
my first love is, and will always be the Piano, but there's just something about the Sitar that sends shivers down my spine.
It's almost as if its calling...yearning...pulling...home to you...
Whoa, I'm getting all deep
and carried away!
Loreena doesn't even use a Sitar on Caravanserai
Anyway, I was on wikipedia and found out that Sitar is actually
quite difficult to learn, but apparently the electric version is comparitively easy.
There's been some great
comments here. Ramona, I totally agree that being able to read music helps, it enable me to pick up Uke and Bass quite quickly,
although I'm still far from mastering either instrument. Gina, you sound like quite the enthusiastic percussionist! Have you
got your Cowbell yet?
Have you found a good music teacher, Salvador? I'd love to hear how your
musical endeavours are going! Please share!

I can play the piano, guitar and percussion. I started my professional
music classes when I was a 6 year-old girl.
But the most difficult thing about playing an instrument, is to have enought
time to play it, and to find people who would listen to you.
Can I share with you a little secret?¿? If you play for
people who doesn´t know anything about music, they always will be thankful, and they will give you a lot of congratulations,
although your bad performance. XD^^

I think taking up an instrument at any age is a marvelous endeavor. I played violin and piano as a child,
but left them a bit behind as I went to University. Then as an adult I just decided to start singing lessons....it's been
8 years and I am putting my a solo CD this year.
So anything is possible and if you have the drive and the passion,
I am sure it will take you where you want to go

It sounds like a good idea to start playing an instrument.
It is hard work. I think you already know.
A
little more than one and a half year ago I began to play the harp. A long lost dream suddently came true. And all because
I came across ms. McKs music.
I have played the piano since before I could walk. My parents have told me I would come
crawling determined at the piano. Then I would lean on to the pianos side and with my free hand reach up and hit the keys... But
I first started taking lessons at the age 9. I still wonder why my parents didn't take me to lessons earlier.
I've
also played the flute (recorder) for I think it became 5 years along with my sisters.
Well enough about me...
i
wish you good luck with your lessons. I heard some place that every human can learn to sing. So it must be the same with
an instrument. you just have to find the instrument for you.
Anxious 2 hear more on your progress...
Yes
Salvador play to your hearts content!!! Take it from someone who plays dunbek, frame drum, recorder, a little piano, tambourine,
and rattles and I am longing to get a cow bell!!!LOL!!! The cow bell can wait... I don't play very well, but I play from
my heart and not in front of anyone unless they are in the drum circle too. If your heart is calling out for you to play,
you should play and put it on YouTube so we can all see and hear it! Loreena's liner notes said something to the extent:
from the Toa "there is nothing in the heart that isn't already in it." So basically it means that if your heart wants to play,
play and if your heart isn't into it, then it isn't going to happen. It's how Loreena writes her music and lyrics. The quote
is in The Book of Secrets" and on "Words and Music". Anxious 2, I asked my friend, a voice and piano teacher if she can
teach anyone to sing. And she said, "Well, I had this one student and he wasn't physically built right to sing on key. He
was awful and she can't teach me either, or my brother or my sisters. So we can all sing in the sense of singing, but to sound
"good" not to mention "GREAT" like Loreena, your body needs to be built right and you need the correct teaching. Using your
diaphram, standing straight, shoulders back, open throat, and no high heels. She was taught to sing the wrong way in high
school and in college. After a couple years of college she sought a different teacher and was taught the correct way and her
voice improved greatly. Alas her voice was damaged from the years of no support, it blew her chance of having a singing career.
At least she had the experience to sing backup to Ella Fitzgerald. My other friend wants to play the harp, she's 57. If
she had the money, she'd be playing right now. Don't let age stop you from playing and look inside your heart, that is where
it all starts and you go and "polish the mirror of your soul." Best of Luck, Gina

Hi Salvador, So,they had the same effect on you. I went out and bought a violin and took a couple lessons last year, but
realized I didn't have enough time to devote to it. If you already know how to read music it helps, but if you don't it will
take a lot longer. Guess I will be starting at a really advanced age as I will have to wait until I retire. In the meantime
it's fun just to get it out once in a while and bow it and feel the vibrations. I think you should go for it. Mona
