As promised, I want to tell you how wonderful my day in Brescia was. I had just arrived in town after a six-hour travel by train, since I don’t live in North Italy, when I heard instruments’ sounds coming from the stage located in Piazza Duomo, not far from the hotel where I had booked. Within a few minutes I got down with the hope to see Loreena preparing the gig. She was really there, on the stage, for the soundcheck. The square was open to people, hence soon after the first notes many people have gathered on both sides of it to attend rehearsals and take photos to Loreena. Some call friends on mobile to tell them how incredible it was to have the chance to see Loreena so close. It was actually great. She behaved in a very informal way, spoke to Brian, Clive, Caroline and the other musicians, often drank and laughed, she was a dream. I thought that it was a real treat to be there, exactly as I had hoped to experience, honestly, and it was coming true. She dressed black trousers and a grey top and also sunglasses. The soundcheck lasted an hour, as she didn’t sing anything, but just some lines of every song.
SETLIST: Stolen Child The Gates of Istanbul The Mummers’ Dance Bonny Portmore Marco Polo The Highwayman Dante’s Prayer The Bonny Swans Caravanserai Raglan Road The Mystic’s Dream Santiago The Lady Of Shalott The Old Ways Never-Ending Road
ENCORE: Cymbeline
The concert was an unforgettable experience which passed off too quickly. I felt much satisfaction in being there to see and listen to my Loreena. She, and not alone, was a bit concerned about weather conditions, so that she said, as soon as she spoke to us, “Let’s hope the weather holds off”, and it has actually held off all the concert time, or better nearly, until just before she sang Never-Ending Road. She was sitting on the piano bench to introduce the song, when a few people stood up abruptly and opened their umbrellas or tried to find a covered corner, so she paused and asked if it was raining. Once she realized that, she added: “No, stop, I have to sing the last song” as she wonderfully did at once. As Loreena got her deserved, heartfelt audience’s feedback, that is standing ovation, ‘you are fantastic’, a bunch of flower… - the rain had, however, already stopped falling, though the sky over the stage was lined with and lit by threatening lightnings. An encore – Cymbeline – ended the concert.
The third part of the night was excellent: greeting her behind the stage. There were at least one hundred people or even more, all ordered in the queue for a good 45 minutes. She was unique, so sweet and delicate! She greeted and thanked everyone joyfully, posed with them for photos, paid much attention to every single word people told her. I met her too, my first time to see her so close. I remember a very intense moment: as I approached her, shook her hand and kissed her on her cheeks; then my brother took a photo to us (me & Loreena) together. I can’t believe that as of yet. After she signed both the summer tour leaflet and the The Visit booklet, I kissed her once again, this time more warmly and she looked at me, smiling and beautiful. She was as sweet as I have always imagined her.
That was my night in Brescia, the second Loreena concert I attended and one of those moments that I will never forget.
Great Loreena, come back soon to Italy to make another night a magical night!
Hugs to all---
