Hello everyone!

I was in the Santiago Concert yesterday and I have to say it was absolutely amazing!

I have never been to such a concert before, in terms of how good it sounded, not only Loreena (which was just as awesome as you see in every performance on the Internet) but all the musicians and every gadget we don't see in the background but makes it being a PERFECT and hugely beautiful experience.

I wish every artist was able to do such a great performance but as well seem so relaxed and enjoying his own work. All my greatest amazement to Loreena and his crew.

On the rarities side... there were two funny happenings during the night. There was a power failure and suddenly you could hear nothing after the great beginning of Raglan Road. Loreena came to the front to tell us without microphone that there was a power failure and that it was going to take a while before everything got booted up again. She even joked about his shakesperian ways, as she was speaking to such a long crowd without microphone Smiler

On another hand, the bell of the cathedral tower rang every quarter an hour, and we heard eleven o'clock and then twelve o'clock. At first it was even charming and melted perfectly with the music, but then it was kind of annoying and Loreena related to the public by making funny angry faces to the bell. At the end of the concert when she was singing Never-Ending Road the bell rang exactly before she was about to sing "The Bells they all toll", which caused a laughter among everybody there and even she couldn't believe the coincidence and laughed with us.

So that's it!! Perfect and amazing concert, being a listener to Loreena since The Visit when I was just around 10 years old!! Her music has been so long with me that seeing her performance live is going to be a life lasting memory Wink

Regards,

Manuel

Wink Big Grin Smiler

I was trying to imagine Loreena's 'funny angry faces' to the bell, that rang so often in the square while the concert.
I am happy, Betty, never mind, how is it possible to get angry when we speak of Loreena!!!

Hello everybody,
We came from Portugal, and we too have been in Santiago.
We agree with what have been already said, it was a wonderful concert and a totally magical night with the Cathedral and its Bells!!!
We are used to her incredible voice when we hear her CD´s, but with the fantastic sound of the Plaza da Quintana, it was really extra- ordinary!!!
All musicians were also amazing…
Thank you for that unforgettable night, and why not tour one day in Portugal which also has several perfect historic places for such a great event.

Best regards.

Andreia and Miguel.

Hi manu

I think my colleagues looked a bit in my direction when I started laughing. Big Grin
I almost felt like reading a fairytale...

So funny about the bell ringing.
It reminded me about the fokus on youth-concerts at the harp congress I've just been to.
There was a "bib bib bib" times 4 around the room. I heard it twice at the first concert. I thought it was a mobil phone at first, but I was told afterwards that it is some fault they cannot figure out what is and what makes the sound. And it repeats itself every half an hour.
Like my harp teacher said: It must have been a bored husband, draged to see the harpshow, that has noticed this frequency. He didn't have much else to do... Big Grin

Welcome to the board manu.
What an opening thread! Cool

Anxious 2 hear more from you.

I was there too... my very first Loreena McKennitt concert.

It was incredible... words cannot describe how and what I felt in Plaza de la Quintana this night. I think even the rain stayed at the sky just to hear the concert.

Great setting, great musicians, great setlist, even the bells and the power failure issues were some kind of challenges that Loreena overcame perfectly.

During the soundcheck I managed to talk to the musicians and some of them were really excited about playing there, they all loved the environment. I also took some pictures with them, they were so kind. Big Grin

After the concert I had the chance of meeting Loreena beside the merchandise zone... and she was lovely!. When she was ready to start tthat little signing session I was the first on the queue and she was expectant to receive us. I got a couple of autographs and a picture (that failed to be taken the first time, and I managed to talk to Loreena's assistant in order to repeat the picture). Great treasures!.

Greetings!.

What a funny night in Santiago. You made me laugh a lot with that bell in competition with Loreena to 'perform' Smiler. I would have liked so much to see her funny angry Mad faces...
Thank you, manuel.
Cheers.

Hi Manuel,

Thanks for your review. I was there too and I have to say that, after attending several concerts of hers before, I could have never imagined Loreena could outperform herself: well, last night she did. I don't know whether it was the acoustic properties of the "Plaza de la Quintana" or that she was particularly inspired to use her voice in a (yet!) more amazing way than she usually does, but last night she sounded out of this world. Last year in Barcelona, the sound was a bit sort of "blunted", while in the open air it floated in a very special way. It's very difficult to describe it, but it was amazing. I attended the concert with my parents: my mother had come along with me to previous concerts, but she agreed with me in everything I have just explained here. My father had never attended her concerts and he was in tears half of the show Roll Eyes And the musicians were superb, as usual.

So, please, Loreena, never mind the bells: if you come back to Santiago, please do your best to perform in the Plaza de la Quintana again Smiler I can vouch your voice sounded like a fairy's. It really seems incredible it was a human voice.
