I went to the concert in Bologna (21st March), and I noticed that the drums were loud... But I really liked it. I think it gave songs a powerful impact. Really cool! I was not the only one to think this way... Tal is a really good drummer and I hope to see him again with Loreena's band.

Well, I must say that I'm a little "surprise" or "embarassed" by this kind of discussion (sorry for the words, it's not my native langage and I don't see something close to what I feel) but, have you ever tried to ask what Tal considers himself? I mean, you're talking about him as if he was not really a human but "a fonction". It's perhaps why I feel a little "uncomfortable" reading all this -even, if, I admit there's no offense and it said in a polite way, in the mind of "talking music" and "ginving impression"-.
I had the opportunity to talk with Tal and for him a drumer and a percussionist is the same thing. So I take his part (his side, I don't know how we say in english). Let's say, I "protect" him, because he asked me to and because he can't do it himself. And also, because, I want to.
In Paris we really had a problem of sound, but, eveywhere else, it seems that all is ok. So, have you ever think that it could comes also from the place you were in the hall (in front of a speaker, on the way of reverberation or else) or from the fact that it's not a rock concert and, of course it can seem to some of you that Tal or Brian play loud compared to a harp or a hurdy-gurdy ...?
I understand that some can think that it cover the other "lighter" instruments but I'm sorry: can you imagine what it is for Tal or for the sound ingeneers and for everyone who work on the sound, to have this kind of reflexions on this board time to time ?
It's also Loreena's choice, and, not only we have to respect this but, we know her: if the drums and percussions of Tal were not appropriate to what she wants, she surely have not let him be as he is ...This message has been edited. Last edited by: Very Old Elf,

to get things even straighter, a drummer is a percusionist.. and there were actually up to 3 or even 4 percussionists playing at any one time last night, hit something with something to make a sound, and its percussion, and that includes a little metal triangle..
and I honestly did not feel that any of it was too loud...

First of all, to get things correct. Tal is not the percussionist, he's the drummer. Rick Lazar is the percussionist, it's not really the same thing. And I have seen Loreena so many times (always with Rick) and both with and without Tal, and I must say that Tal gives the show a lift, and makes it much better and he is certainly not too loud. And... Tal's last name is Bergman, not Goodman.

I agree I was in the second row drums not to loud and if anything was wrong I thought the hurdy gurdy and Brian Hughes Guitars were not loud enough. But then what do I know professionals are there making the sound good for everyone. It was good a dream come true

To be fair NO... We were in row D, and never felt overwealmed by the percussion. also you may have noticed thatthe volume levels of the percussion were raised/ lowered as required by the mixing desk..
