Finally got around to hooking speakers up to my laptop so I could hear this. I loved it, I'd buy it, kind of reminded me of the CD, OR MABINOGI, Legends of the Celts, by Ceredwen, it's beautiful.
Lol, when I first heard her version of Greensleves, I really couldn't understand why she was singing in that way, you know...but I liked it. When I read in the booklet for The Visit, I laughed...: "I always wondered how Tom Waits would sing Greensleves..."

How many genre's has The Beatles Yesterday been arranged (Classical, Jazz,Easy Listening to name a few.)If you heard someone singing or humming the tune as a result of the remix wouldn't that be good to hear. Loreena McKennitt's music will last for generatons and no doubt in hundreds of years time become traditional folk songs as was Greensleeves. Hmm I wonder what Henry VIII would have thought of Loreena McKennitt's remix of his song.

I belatedly listened to the remix version and I have to say that I don't like it at all. I love Loreena because of her interest in conveying various cultural sounds in her music. Her music has never been average or "commercial". I was just in Turkey and Greece over this summer and can fully appreciate the sounds and musical instruments that she uses in The Ancient Muse. She experiences cultures, and then interprets, and conveys it in her music. Quite successfully I might add! So I hope that this remix was just and experiment, and I hope she stays an artisan and is true to her own soul's journey!

Thanks so much for sharing this! Wow, it's terrific to hear that interview as well.
Caravanserai is one of my favorites from An Ancient Muse. I don't mind this version....sure, it's a little different from Loreena's typical....but then again, it helps to bring a more diverse audience to her music.
There's an interview she did in the spring in Amsterdam (I think) where she mentioned some guys in LA were going to do the Caravanserai remix. It's just experimenting. I do think it's the best Bonny Portmore I've heard her do. She sings it with real emotion and nails every note and inflection.

thanks Vale for this gift..Loreena is good as ever actually i prefer the album version of caravanserai, especially the live version at the ahlambra..i think this one is too "ambient","chill out"..doesn't seem to be a loreena's song..anyway ,it's just a way to publicize an ancient muse,a sort of pop version, but it's nice as well

Hello, where is the celtic feeling? Gone, I'd say; that sounded VERY strange to me. Do they have to do that to her music to play it on the radio? Do they fear that people that's listening will get scared of the pure spirit in the wonderful song "Caravanserai"? They should have cut it to a very short version instead, even that would have been better. I'm a little upset, so don't get mad at me...
The other songs where great. As always.

Really interestesting sound, new version, though a little bit commercial. The original version is surely the most evocative, despite this remix isn't so bad. Now I'm asking where can be found!?

The song starts at min 5.40 (approximately).
I just listened to the "remix" version of "Caravanserai"...did not like mit much at all. Too "jazzy" for my liking, and as has been said it has too much of a "lounge" style beat to it. It put me in mind of a 1970's/1980's movie where the music is supposed to be "cool" but is just a poor attempt at copying last year's popular music. It actually sounded as though large portions of the recording were missing, such as about half of the instrumentation used on the CD. I prefer the CD version, definitely and definitively.
I tried to listen to the interview as well, but it was really choppy -- due to the fact that I have to use dial-up internet service. I wish I could get DSL out here!

I totally agree with you, although I respect others' opinions, of course! In my case and as an example, I love the intro of that remix, it sounds new and fresh. Thank you for your post! Best,
MANEL
