I have listened to this album (CD) for three months now and have come to the conclusion that this is her "masterpeice". I just made my own
compilation CD to listen to in my car and included four songs of this newest album.
"The Gates Of Istanbul" has to be the most hypnotic song I've heard in a while. It just doesn't let go! "Kecharitomene" just builds
and layers instruments until 5:09 it stops and then you get the whole deal all at once with this great violin solo playing over it all. I can almost feel that persons fingertips burning when it's done.
Up until now "The Visit" was my favorite but we have moved on to "An Ancient Muse". Can't wait
for the Boston Wand Center show in April.

Gotta join this conversation ;D

I have been sitting here thinking for a while what song is my favourite on AAM, (my favourite looking at all albums is never-changing The highwayman) and my mind always go back to "Incantation" and "Beneath a Phrygian Sky". "Incantation" because it kinda scared me when I first heard it (hypnotic, like some of you have said), strange, beautiful. And "Beneath a Phrygian Sky" makes me think of the tawny sunsets of last spring-early summertimes, the cloudy skies, and the feeling of changes that was in the air in my own life by that time.

The whole mood of the album AAM makes it my second favourite (The book of secrets will stay closest forever..)

A favorite LM tune...that's a hard one, they're all so great. For me however, Night Ride is the one I can listen to any time, all the time. She really hit the home run with that one...

My favourite songs are Caravanserai,Kecharitomene,The Gates of Istanbul and Beneath a Phrygian sky...the lyric is so intense and touching, very topical i think
this album summons all loreena's styles, the celtic side and the middle-eastern one..and the cover sleeve is wonderful, magic Smiler
i like the new turkish mood to it;also the main theme..the silk road..i think it's very evocative and fits well the mood of the album

HI Yavuz!
I love Demeter! What do you know of her? I know it is off the subject, but if you can briefly explain who she is to you, I would love it and owe you big time.
Peace and love by yours,
Gina

Hi Gina;

Sure i will gladly write somethings about Her but as i said to vale before i recommend some Turkish Pop singers; "let me think for a while"; because i don't want to be misunderstood.

Just know this for now: I like Her yellow hair.

Hi Guitarpat56

We like same songs and this made me happy.

1) The Gates of Istanbul
2) Kecharitomene

These are my favorites. Especially following part of "The Gates of Istanbul" song fascinates me, it is "hypnotic" as you said.

"Then come love, let us dance all night
Until birds they waken at the dawn
Then come love, let us sing all night
And all our loves will slumber with a song"

Having listened to "Kanoun" sounds in "Kecharitomene" and seen it in perfect harmony with other instruments one more time i have admired for Loreena's creativity.

But i feel pains in my soul when i listen to Penelope's song. That song is "The Dark Night of The Soul" of "An Ancient Muse" album. It is Pure Melancholy; i mean, Pure Black Bile. That song reflects the inner world of Demeter (Ceres) i am sure She also loved that song.

I picked up the album in a Borders before Christmas. It was just sitting a rack. I thought it might have been an older CD until I saw the copyright. And I was very pleasantly surprised the it builds on her other works. Great album, no question about it.

Looking forward to seeing her live next month.

I know what you mean before I left Virgin Megastore In Bromley England I played it nearly everyday since it's release. How I enjoyed sharing the music with my customers. To quote from Shrek "It has layers" as you listen you discover another sound hidden beneath the main layer. As I explained to my colleagues when they said "Oh no not again don't you get bored with it" Do you ever get bored with the smell of a rose.
