I have been taking my time in deciding which song I like best and have arrived at some interesting conclusions.
There are definitely different catagories of Loreena's songs which I like to regard as the following:
Her own compositions (vocal) Her own compositions (instrumental) Classical poems which she has written the music to. Traditional folk songs. Traditional instrumentals which have been arranged by Loreena.
I still like the whole album and would not dare to single out any song or melody in particular. It is a complete experience. A glimpse of Loreena's wonderland.
If we regard the first four songs for instance they all build each other up. From Incantation which sets the general listening mood and then on to The Gates Of Istanbul which is the first song with lyrics. Both of these pave the way to Caravanserai which is a masterpiece, both the melody and lyrics as well as the arrangement. Just when you feel that it doesn't get any better than that one hears the bell toll on The English Ladye and The Knight.
You get the general idea. It is a completeness of musicality and to single out one song would be at the cost of another.
I try to keep a Christian Sabbath (from 6 p.m. on Friday to 6 p.m. on Saturday) which always begins with me listening to a couple of relaxing CDs. The inclusion of Sacred Shabbat (Sabbath) gives Loreena an assured place among those couple.
I love the whole works.
