Anyone else here go to Loreena's in-store appearance at Barnes & Noble in New York last night??
After a signal problem got our train into NYC late, we arrived at the store just in time to hear her finish Raglan Road. A woman in line behind me told me that she did Penelope's Song and Stolen Child prior to that. Damn train. She was there with Brian Hughes.
There are very few people left in the world that I would stand in line for...she being one of the very few exceptions. Loreena took time with each and every person and greeted them as if they were the first and only person in line. What class. What grace. I've been to a few of these 'meet the celebrity' things and this one had to be one of the most wonderful occasions of all of them. It made the two hour wait to meet her well worth it.
She did not sit at a table, sign and then hustle you along. She stood the whole time and greeted each person as if they were coming in through her front door. The only table there was the one that she used to set the cds on so that she could sign them. There was no 'distance' between you and her. She posed for pictures and talked with each person who wanted to do so.
I have to add a word of thanks to the QR people who were there who were obviously deliriously jet lagged but who were class and grace all the way. I didn't get everyone's name but I did have a brief chat in line with a Mr. Lester (who I found out was related to legendary Beatles director Dick Lester). The man looked like he was actually ENJOYING being jet lagged and helping out with the crowd.
There had to easily be a few hundred people there. A woman in line behind me remarked that most artists would lose a good portion of their audience after not releasing an album for nine years. She said that the crowd last night was obviously a testament to Loreena and how 'we' hold her. Still there for her.
I couldn't agree more.

I just watched the Raglan Road video on YouTube and it makes me want to go out and buy the Barnes and Noble copy of the CD. That is such a beautiful rendition. I don't recall the Chieftains version on Tears of Stone being a % as beautiful as that.
I wish LM would come to a BN in Chicago. Such beautiful accoustics for a store!
Thank you Hawkman for your write-up of the event. I couldn't agree with you more. The one stand-apart thing I too noticed was how she wasn't hiding behind a table but was at eye level with everyone she greeted. Loreena was the most personable of artists I have encountered in an in-store setting.
I too was in the overflow crowd against the wall of Art & Architecture. Having braved gridlock alerts, parking enforcement, and having to move the car once in the night, it was well worth the 70 mile trek into NYC to return to the wall to wait my turn.
And thank you Lightning, the YouTube posts are wonderful. I cannot wait until she announces tour dates for the US segment of her tour. I can only imagine the performance she will give with a complete musical set-up.

Oh my goodness! "Raglan Road" is even on "Tears Of Stone" by The Chieftains (with Joan Osborne)... I already had two version of the song and I never noticed that... I bet Loreena's version is much better than these versions; the live performance is enough to be sure of that!

Thank you very much, lightning! Beautiful videos! I especially like "Penelope's Song". I also realized that I know the song "Raglan Road"!!! I own a beautiful album, called "Quiet Land Of Erin" by Deirdre Starr & Jon Mark, where this song is track #9... but I have never learnt the titles of the songs on that album, so "Raglan Road" didn't mean much to me till ten minutes ago, when I heard Loreena sing it! Beautiful version of this amazing traditional, now I'm listening to Starr&Mark's version and I'm sooooo looking forward to getting Loreena's version.

Wow!!! Thanks!! About the time that she started Raglan Road we were getting out of the cab outside. I thank you for providing a way to see what I missed.
Ahem. I see that you were nice and close. I was in the group standing against the Art & Architecture wall waiting for you guys to get done so that we could sit.

Thanks so much for giving us the link so that we could see Loreena @ Barnes & Noble. It is very much appreciated!
Hawkman -
Thank you for sharing your story of meeting Loreena with us. (I was very sorry to read about the train delay.... !)
I live in New England, and would have loved to have been there. By the time I found out, it wouldn't have been possible for my husband to take off from work - and, I didn't want to go alone.
I hope & pray that Loreena will come out this way in 2007 ! It would be an absolute dream to see her in concert.
Oh, the shame, the humility, the heart wrenching dispare...I feel for you man...I had tickets to see her later and could not do to a migraine that forced me off the side of the road to sleep it off for 10 hours.
