greetings from Massachusetts

jimmyg ·
Spent my 65th birthday (October 23, 2015)with  my sister and a  a dear friend attending Loreena's concert at the Calvin Theatre in Northampton, Massachusetts. What a glorious evening in every respect! Loreena and Northampton go together like toast and jam. The sold out crowd was attentive to every song, caught all of Loreena's keen wit, and Loreena responded with a lengthy concert and two encores,. Though Ive been a fan of her since I first heard her "Lady of Shallot" and "The...

Re: Saban Theatre 3/12

Svenlore ·
Just listening to Loreena's music to remind me of two wonderful SoCal performances: Ace Hotel in LA and Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. I hope the family traveling from CO enjoyed the experience as much as I. Wonderful blend of history, storytelling and music!! Thank you, Loreena and Traveling Troubadours for a lovely two evenings.

Saban Theatre 3/12

ToyaLR ·
I am so excited to see Loreena and Company at the Saban Theatre in four days. We are traveling from Colorado. My three guests are my adopted daughter, her fiance and my sister who just returned from the Middle East who was working for NGO humanitarian group. I am introducing all three to Loreena for the first time. I hope we can meet Loreena in person after the show. I've seen Loreena in concert twice and the third time is a charm. Look out LA, here we come!

McFarlin Auditorium at SMU - Amazing

Art Busbey ·
I can't tell you how incredible the McFarlin performance by the troubadours was on Saturday night. Though I am from Fort Worth we had people around us who had come from Austin (where the show was sold out) and Kansas City to see. And it far exceeded our expectations! The favorite songs, discussion and education of the audience, and humor were a pleasing experience I will always remember. My 35 year old daughter was in tears much of the time and I cursed myself for forgetting my binoculars (I...

Articles & Interviews from 90s

Ryan ·
I'm not sure if anyone else here found know of this, but I recently found a site I believe to be called tricon.hu has several pages devoted to Ms. McKennitt: articles, song lyrics, reviews of albums and tours, and interviews from the 1990s. Additionally, I found on this website an "intimate" interview w/ Loreena about her fiancÉ's death: http://loreena.tricon.hu/cikk/...amp;c=20070304144435 According to homepage, it's an unofficial fan page I believe, but very interesting to see "new"...

Thanks Alexandra, it's always a pleasure to be able to know of a Loreena's tour, especially when it's so far off, on the other side of the ocean. It's curious that when I met her the first time, I also asked her for a signiture on the first Cd I had, but it was The visit. In this picture you look really excited!

October 27th Performance at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA

Jenn ·
We just got home yesterday evening from the Monday concert at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. I have never been this far north in Virginia, so we took advantage of being so close to DC and drove up early to visit some sites and museums. When tickets first went on sale in the Spring for the Alexandria concerts, I knew the venue was a little different. Tickets were for general seating; you buy a ticket, day of event you wait in line for a seating number, then you get to go in when your number...

Spreckels Theater, San Diego!

Semaspa A ·
I realize it's been about a week since the concert at the Spreckels Theater, but now that things have calmed down a little for me, I can finally sit down and write a little something (albeit, long-winded--I apologize). Thank you so much , Loreena, for making it to San Diego and for taking the time from the rest of your busy night after the concert to come and say hello! I had missed out on seeing you twice since I had been first introduced to your music--I guess the third time really is the...

Loreena Fans

Gina ·
It's been too long since I've been on this board and it's great to be back. I was wondering how many of you on this board have made Loreena fans? I was eating lunch with a friend and she told me that she has a Honda Civic and so I had to ask, "Do you know who had a Honda Civic?" She replied, "no" and so naturally I introduced her to Loreena and she fall in love with her. It's so easy to play any one of Loreena's songs and BAM! Loreena has a new fan! I've had great results getting more people...

What did you get out of Loreena's Concerts?

Lizjul ·
I got more than what I thought.  The music was out of this world, but I was so astonished about what I learned from her. So much so, that I had to blog about it.  I called it Lessons I Learned From A Loreena McKennitt Concert

Re: Need Help In Choosing A Loreena Song For Thanksgiving

Ryan ·
You can try Caravanserai, Dante's Prayer, Penelope's Song, Mummer's Dance, or Neverending Road. I don't know about you, but I always felt these songs give the "feeling" on family holidays or brings in the mood. Hope it helps!

All of her songs are good of course, but for a mass, I would say Beneath A Phrygian Sky, or Dante`s Prayer. They are both about having faith in dark times of life, beautifully written as well as inspirational. Good luck!!!

Wow thank you so much!! I do like Never Ending Road and Dante's Prayer is certainly a beautiful chant. I would be accompanied by either piano or organ. So these two are perfect for a thanksgiving mass. Thank you so much Ryan, and Barnacles62

Hello from Athens,Greece! I' m a big Loreena's fan since i was 13 years old. There are so many things i could say about the feelings and times i have passed with her music next to me.I am a professional musician and drum teacher and i could say that Loreena's existence has played a very important role for taking that life decision for me...I remember one night, some years ago, when Loreena came to Athens and played an amazing concert at Theatro Vraxon..it was a time i have quitted playing music...

Hello TolishG! I enjoyed reading your post as I can relate to your experience with how Loreena effects you. (Just a side note, I find it odd that Loreena's name isn't listened in the dictionary on her own message board! It gave me a little chuckle to add her name to the list.) Anyways, back to the subject at hand, I'm glad you got back into music and can tell how Loreena "serves the music". That is one thing my percussion teacher has taught me. Loreena finds the soul of the song and it...

Indianapolis Performance

CanuckinIndy ·
Attended Loreena's trio performance last night in Indianapolis. As an ex-pat Canadian living in Indianapolis, I knew to be excited as I had not ever seen her live before. The performance far exceeded my own high expectations. What a night! What a voice! To my heart's delight, the crowd was sizable and very enthusiastic! I wasn't sure how many people in this city/region would be aware of Loreena and her magnificent voice. The response from the crowd made me proud. Great show!

My wife and I were at the concert in Indianapolis IN on the Butler Campus. I am from the UK and my wife is from Indiana. We both thoroughly enjoyed the concert and all of Loreena's work on CD and DVD. It appears that Indiana is not the cultural wasteland it appears as I agree there were plenty of fans in attendance. Looking forward to the new album hopefully in 2017.

A Trio Performance T-Shirt?

AutumnHallows ·
I attended the masterful performance in York, PA with my husband over the past weekend. We traveled from Long Island to hear LM once more before she returned to Canada. Loreena's music was basically the backdrop to our wedding and last year, coincidentally on our wedding anniversary weekend, we saw her in NYC, where she opened with 'Samhain Night', the song our wedding party walked down the aisle to. As a keepsake I was hoping to purchase a tour t-shirt but stupidly didn't have cash on me. I...

Autumnhollows, that is a beautiful picture. You and I do and will have memories of the Colonel McKennitt's music, particularly with me with my hearing "The Mummers' Dance" when I was between my pre-teen and adolescent years. Well, anyway, thank you for sharing.

The song 'Pagan Trees'

Taliesin ·
Earlier this year, just before I attended one of Loreena's concerts in Italy, I had come across an old recording of her song, supposedly called 'Pagan Trees' ( https://youtu.be/-G5VxlOyUyo ). I came to love it instantly. I own every album of Loreena's and have listened to all of her songs multiple times throughout the years but this one gets me like few other could. Never before have I felt such strong nostalgia whilst listening to a song. A nostalgia rooted far in the past. Far beyond the...

Hi Taliesin Thanks for reminding that very rare Loreena's recording! I have 3 versions of this song (for one you put the link above) - if you want other versions please give me your email. Unfortunatly, the quality is not the best. Hope Loreena put "Ballad of the Foxhunter" on her new recording as this song is also beatiful and it needs to finally find its place on an offical album! Regarding lyrics, well I have never found any BUT many years ago (10 probably) I did some transcription from...

Hello, Rafał ( TOKOFEROL )! You have no idea how happy you just made me. Magic happens when Loreena puts Yeats's words to music and so is the case with Ballad of the Foxhunter and I am sure it will appear on her next album. The song is very charming. As for the recordings of Pagan Trees , please send any you have to my address: meloryno@gmail.com . Being a non-native English speaker, I've also failed to completely transcribe the lyrics, if you want, send them too. Have a pleasant day!

I too, love this song, as all other Loreena songs. When it comes down to it, she could record the Barney theme song and I'd fall in love with it! I'm smitten and enticed with her voice and style of singing that I doubt there would be a song I didn't like coming from her. There's only 1 other band I can say that about, alas, they've broken up some time ago. Happy Eclectic Celticing!

Re: What did you get out of Loreena's Concerts?

A couple of years ago I attended an open air concert of Loreena in Hannover, Germany. I had been invited and was on the guest list. Before the concert and during the break I got into a conversation with a couple sitting next to me. About music and the world in general. I offered my theory that most people love the music that they grow up with because that time is very emotional and a lot of music is attached to those emotions or vice versa. So which music did I like when I grew up - the...

I was so excited to see someone to the same concerts as I, that I forgot what the subject was! Oh deary me... I can't call what I learn actual "lessons" as I see them as more of an experience. The air is different, the mood is humbled, exciting, calming, and a bit mysterious, my imagination takes off on the first note and my heart races and Loreena takes me far away from the Pacific Northwest to a realm of peace, love, beauty, and energy enchants my mind, body and soul. Come to think of it,...

I've loved Loreena's music forever, it seems. As a singer myself I have often wished that I had taken the journey in search of Celtic music in its purest forms. Life, however, had different plans for me. I've seen many great artists in concert during the last 40 years but it was always my biggest dream to see Loreena in concert. I despaired of ever having that chance since I live near Reno, Nevada and she's not done many concerts on the US west coast. I'd wanted to see her when she played...

I have seen you in concert at the Paramount and at Woodland Park Zootunes in Seattle, Washington, USA. I am looking forward to your March 26th tour appearance. Hope you will have time to visit the Fremont Troll statue if you have time. Celt myths and stories are of course filled with such woodland spirits, gods and monsters. I am right now listening to your A Midwinter Night's Dream album. It is rotation on my stereo with Katie McMahon's Celtic Christmas and Sting's If on a Winter's Night...
