How to?

Forgive my ignorance as this was the first time I tried a chat room. I logged into the chat on time as directed. I did get a screenbox but was unable to type anything into it (this was where I was suppposed to do it, right?) Also, I saw no other activity. What was I doing wrong, so that I can be prepared next time?

Hi Dan,

I'd like to help you with this, as I have some experience in setting up Chatrooms (as well as monitoring and taking transcripts for two other VIPS in the past.

What exactly did you only see?

Please let me know, and I'll see what I can offer as assistance. Thanks. Smiler

Shan-lyn, as best as I can remember, I clicked on the link provided in the e-mail (quinlanroad.com/chat) which then took me to the site where I had to log in. That got me to the chat area, where there was a blue tinted screenbox in the center with a little talk ballon symbol in the upper left. I clicked on the box and the symbol but nothing activated, so I couldn't type any text. I don't recall seeing this "talk" button that others refer to. Does it actually say "TALK" or is it an icon? I swear I looked all over for something to click on. I freely admit my lack of computer knowledge.

Hi Dan,

I've just returned from viewing the Chat Announcement e-mail, and clicked on the link provided, but the chat link isn't working at this time.

However, if my 'photographic memory' serves me correct, I do know what you're referencing to about the 'little talk symbol' which was located, yes, in the upper left-hand corner. This "Chatroom option" was disabled, as the Chat was to be viewed in "text format".

In order to reach the 'text area', in the upper right-hand corner, you should have seen "Login".

The Community Members had the option of logging into the Chatroom by either entering via the Announcement, or logging into the Messageboard area, then clicking on the "GO" tab, and then seeing "Chatroom" located on the Pull down list, which for some reason, is no longer there at this time.

It's most likely been pulled out for further evaluation.

In your e-mail announcement, when you were searching, do you recall seeing "Login" in the upper right-hand corner? You should have seen this. I'll be waiting for your response.

P.S. Dan, I had to return as there was something in your post that I needed clarified.

Had you already logged in? If so, then your Java probably needs to be updated.

SunJava is now predominant and is unfortunately, not very compatible with Windows 98 (which some folks still have), and if this is your OS (Operating System), then there's a link that I can fish out for you.

If you have XP, then I would recommend you go to SunJava and download the latest upgrade. If you have more questions, write. My e-mail is located in my Profile here.

Take care, Shan
Dan...I'm speculating, but I think they were able to segregate the two sessions. I logged into the earlier session via the announcement and was able to see the back and forth going on but didn't see my name up there on the visitors list and couldn't enter anything in, even though there were only 50-60 visitors out of 250 possible. An hour later I logged in via the announcement at the time I was supposed to and everything worked fine. My only suggestion is a text window instead of the single line.
