The Tour

I appreciate that it's down to ecconomics/footfall but can I humbly ask that IF Loreena should decide to play a UK date, that it isn't in London..

as a large majority of concert go-ers have to travel anway, any UK location is better than the overpriced rip off capitol of the UK...

just IMHO of course..

I just wrote that I'm very very excited about the new CD but I have to admit that being able to see Loreena live is one of the most beautiful experiences I've ever had. My wife and I still talk about the concert in Stuttgart we saw in March 2007.

And now hearing that she'll finally tour again makes even unbelievably happy. We'll be there - somewhere - that is for sure. Let's wait and see where our journey will take us...

she'll finally tour...? Sadly, there is no confirmed tour yet... But let's cross our fingers...!
I'll message this to Lorena's tour manager.

My suggestion would be Robin 2, Bilston (near Wolverhampton).

Not only is it pretty much central in the UK, but it's a 700 seater venue that takes on a lot of great acts that no longer tour football stadiums and whatnot. Also, it gets very good revues and attracts a lot of visitors. I've been 3 times in the past month alone, two of which were to see acts that you'd generally associate with much bigger venues but who came to the Robin because they admire the venue after playing there before.

I would definitely attend any Loreena McKennitt concert in the Midlands, but would love to see her at Robin 2. Big Grin

Then, Mark, are you confirming that Loreena is about to go on tour? You can just blink an eye if you don't or cannot confirm...

I suggest a beautiful place here in the north of Italy: Pordenone. It is not far from Spilimbergo (Loreena performed there during the Folkest festival) and it has an appropriate hall - not at all too big neither too small - where a concert would be great. All is wood-made and the acoustic it is said to be very good. See this:

Mr. Mark:
If Ms. McKennitt does go on a tour again, I would love it if she returns to the Fox Theater in Detroit like she did back in October of 2007. Man, it was one heck of an experience and I loved it. Moreover, I would like to make a suggestion about her performing in a nice theater in Kiev, Ukraine, particularly the National Theatre of Opera in Kiev, or someplace spectacular in Lyviv. Besides, Ukraine has a little bit of Celtic in itself and Ms. McKennitt would eventually have fans there since she grew up in Manitoba where there are large Ukrainian farming communities. Would you mind passing that idea on to Ms. McKennitt's tour manager? Thank you. That would be great.
Loreenya
Well, I know a good place here too.... ¬¬ OK, ok, ok! I know she will never come here! hahahahaha

But Mark, can you help me? I wanna know how does Loreena McKennitt usually decide where will be the next tour (if it's her choice, of course).

Thanks, Elisa Wink
I forwarded this to our tour manager.

Oh, Mr. McCauley, please intercede with Ms. McKennitt on my behalf that she would come back to Detroit. I have friends and acquaintances, including a priest, who are eager to see her return. Also, I have a venue in mind in case you folks decide that she would have a tour and that would the Palace of Auburn Hills. Thank you. That would be wonderful.
Sincerely,
Loreenya
Good morning,

since everyone seems to throw their suggestions for concert venues into the big pot, I want to add my share, too.
I'd like to suggest the Stadthalle in Heidelberg, Germany, as a concert venue. It has seats for max. 3500 people and in there is an organ in the big hall.
Pictures:
http://www.eventbuero.com/bild...erg%20Stadthalle.jpg
http://www.heidelberg-postkart...lberg-stadthalle.jpg
http://www.bodowartke.de/conte...090305_104539_00.jpg
http://www.heidelberger-philha...C_6af0382e39.jpg.jpg

I don't know if any of you have been to Heidelberg before. It's a beautiful city as you can see in these pictures:
http://data.motor-talk.de/data...heidelberg-44974.jpg
http://www.heidelberg.de/servl...DELBERG_HERBSTBI.jpg

What could be interesting for Loreena is that there is even a Celtic background. On the "Heiligenberg" (Saint's Mountain), the remains of a Celtic settlement were found, dating back to 400 BC (as far as I can remember). They also found a hole in the mountain, called the "Heathen's hole".
Picture: http://www.ruinenland.de/image...wuert/heidenloch.jpg
It's a hole that goes some 60m into the mountains. Archaeologists are not sure what the purpose of this hole was, but they suspect that people were sacrificed there.
Also, there are the ruins of 2 monasteries on this mountain. It has always been a "holy", magical place.
http://www.fuu-heidelberg-lang...erg_heiligenberg.jpg
The Nazis added their share to its history, by building a giant amphitheatre on top of the mountain, the "Thingstätte".
http://www.blather.net/img/fea...erg_thingstatte2.jpg
If it were not for it's history, I'd suggest this as a concert venue. They say about 9000-10000 people fit in there. Today, there are concerts held there, but someone told me that the acousitcs are really bad.
Even with this darker side to its history, the mountain still fascinates people today, and the pagans of the area gather on its top on special occasions.

Besides that, Heidelberg is a smug little town. There are lots of tourists there, which means high prices on the one side, but on the other hand the infrastructure and hotels/accommodation facilities are very well.
I can highly recomment "Steffi's hostel", where I worked this summer and it is the best hostel i ever stayed in (and I know many hostels) ;-)

Now I'm going to finish my novel, hoping that I could convince you to come to Heidelberg.

Kindest regards,
Anni

I would have to respectfully disagree with the choice of the Palace of Auburn Hills. That's really for huge productions. I've seen the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Neil Diamond, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban there. Loreena needs to be enjoyed in a more intimate setting. The Fox Theatre was good. Another venue close by would be the Detroit Opera House. If she wanted to go to mid-Michigan, the Wharton Center in East Lansing is a very fine facility.
Mr. Mark,

It was back in September 2009 when I received a very kindly message response on MySpace from your part as confirming my requestment as respects a possible performance/concert of Loreena Mckennitt in Romania (...or Austria) with the next tour's opportunities being heard by Loreena / the tour manager themselves and I have no words to tell youwhat a profound happiness embraced my heart these times I even remember it. I'd definitely would like to kindly ask you for another repetition of all this ( just forward it together with the other requestment(s) from Loreena Mckennitt's fans ) and you'll make this heart of mine to explode of happiness.

Thank you very much,
Grab A.

Well, I never asked to Loreena to come here, because I know it will never heppen.

But this doesn't mean I don't wanna see her, or meet her after the concert. Today I was watching the documentary "The Moveable Music Feast" (only the songs), but after the "Highwayman" I watched the part that Loreena talks to the fans, and it made me very sad, suddenly I started to cry, like a stupid kid... Because I realized that I will never see Loreena in concert, not only because she will never come here, but also because it's almost impossible for me to travel to Europe to see her concert.

So that's it, some people think I don't like her, because I always say "I won't ask her to come here", or "I'm sure she won't come here".
But it's not true, I love Loreena and I'm very sad because I will never see Loreena in concert.

Now, the only thing I ask is: Loreena,if you're considering a new tour, please also consider a new DVD like the "Nights from the Alhambra". Wink Wink Wink
I too decided to throw in my request for a venue; The Paramount in Seattle, you've been here before Loreena and we do miss you and I have many friends who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing your performance. And it's only a 15 hour hop to Australia! That would make Jesse very happy!
Love and Peace to all,
Gina

@ Mark and Robin (male) Wink
In addition to my earlier post about Heidelberg I would like to suggest the Heidelberg Palace:
http://www.schloss-heidelberg....erg/Home/267923.html
I think that a concert there (in the courtyard) might be as spectacular as in the Alhambra. You can rent the rooms, but unfortunately the website has those infos only in German. If you need a translation, please contact me.

@Saul: Yes, you are right, no one can expect that Loreena will visit this or that place. However, I think it is a good thing to suggest places for venues, so those who plan the tour have a wide range of places to chose from. And also, it might be fun for the musicians and Loreena to not alyways play at the same places.
Anyway, if there was only one concert in the whole of Europe, I'd go there to see her perform, no matter what. Smiler
I would swim over the deepest ocean,
Only for nights in Ballygrant.

Hi Elisa

Please don't be so hard on yourself.
Never say never.

I feel the same as you.
I wouldn't ask for my favourite artists to come. I think it should be their choice were to go.

I so love your request for a new DVD instead.
It's amazing how flexible humans can be - if someone won't come to you, you just have to find another way to see them. Big Grin

Take care

Dear Elisa,

Your words touched my soul.

If there's one thing I learned during the last 20 years, then it's that you should never give up your hope and believe for sometimes unexpected things can happen!

I'm sure you'll find help to make your wish come true! For there's not only something special about Loreena McKennitt and her music, but also about her fans and listeners (and about this Forum, too!).

I agree with Anni, that if there is any possibility to support you, you can tell.
I know, that flying from Brazil to Europe and back isn't low-prized (it starts at about 750.- Euro, I guess) but who knows, what the future may bring...

And even if there would only be a small chance, nevertheless it could happen, that Loreena McKennitts next touring leads to Brazil.

With all my best wishes,

Thorsten
Thanks Thorsten, Anxious 2 and Anni for your kind words! I wasn’t expecting this, it was a huge surprise! A good surprise! Big Grin Big Grin

Yes, it’s her choice, she has her own reasons, if she can’t come, who am I to judge? I respect her limitations, and her decisions. I’m sure she knows what is best for her career.

And I just want to make something clear, I'm not blaming her, I know she has a lot of fans around the world, she can’t go everywhere.

Well, the flying from Brazil to Europe is expensive (but not so expensive as I thought, US$ 1.020), I just need money… But if I go to Europe, I probably will go to Germany, maybe I will need a place to stay and someone to show me the city Wink

So, possibly a part of this Community will meet next year, while Loreena McKennitt tours Europe. (I hope, she'll come to Europe/Germany next year)!

I couldn't agree more. Let us try to have a meeting or two and invite all those that will not be fortunate enough to have Loreena and band perform in their home country.

I'm looking forward to this happening. Right now, we'd had enough space for at least two guests and we live nearby Frankfurt (it's about 40-50km to the airport).
So, let's meet at the tour!

Okay, seems like we're not that far from each other. I live in Karlsruhe, between Frankfurt and Stuttgart (two venues which Loreena and band have visited before... Wink ) so if there will be gigs to Germany, or Switzerland, or, ... let's make sure to give Elisa a warm welcome!
