yes, it's another favourite song poll...

Oh my! You guys make it very difficult for me to resist not wanting to listen to it before the christmas-month begins... ;'(

But my mind is made. I have to go through.
I'm desperatly holding on. It is not winter yet, although we did have frost last night here in DK! But not a cruel one as in Good King Wenceslas. Razzer Big Grin
I bought A midwinter night's dream yesterday afternoon...I just can say...WOW!!!!
i MEAN...it's such a stunning album,intense and spiritual.
I find it one of her best work ever,a masterpiece.
Emmanuel pierces my heart everytime i listen to it..i'm glad Loreena sings it in latin...it gives the track solemnity and evergreen appeal(Indeed i'm italian..so i'm proud of latin!)
All the songs are great!holly, the seven rejoices,flambeau..all!
God bless you Loreena!
Gianni.
I really love this album. I love that Loreena adapt tradicional Christmas songs.
But i think that most of us really miss a version of "Silent Night".

I completely agree with you, Mask and the Mirror.

I voted for "The Seven Rejoices of Mary" its tradicional, but i´ve never hearded it, Noël Nouvelet is great too, and In the Bleak Midwinter, Emmanuel... But, i love them all^^

Now I know what music we will be listening during Christmas days!^^

Tahnk you^^

Got your copy of AMND yet, Jesse? What version did you order?

I'm not sure if I ordered a particular version. I got it from a local retailer rather than the QR shop. and no, it still hasn't arrived.

I'm with you Gina Mad

not having AMND yet, I naturally can't vote, but we do have A Winter Garden.

I'm currently leanng towards God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen; not only is it my favourite song on AWG, it's probably in my top 10 Loreena songs!

I want to hear the rest of AMND before I set that in concrete, however.
Looks like I'm the only one so far who voted for 'Emmanuel'. A far better choice would have been 'Can't Decide', of course. Wink

I am greatly enjoying the entire CD; I'd never heard 'Veni Veni Emmanuel' sung in Latin before, and now I feel this is the way it should be performed, for maximum effect.

I've always loved this song, even sung in English; it's based on an ancient plain-song chant (thus would have been sung only in Latin originally) in the Aeolian mode dating back to at least the 12th century. Possibly, it might even go back as far as the 8th century, according to a little Google search I did recently.

Guess I'm a total sucker for anything 'modal'; I became interested in modal music in general when I was 12 years old and never looked back. I'm just grateful Loreena decided to include 'Emmanuel' amongst her 'A Midwinter Night's Dream' offerings. Smiler

Soon I will be able to vote... Anxious 2

It's 1. sunday in Advent this weekend, so I'm going to open the cover place the CD in my CD-player and start decorate my room for the holidays.

Oh and it might take some days before my vote will be. I have to listen properly to the songs Big Grin

I'm going to have to stick with God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, especially because of the extra vocal work at the start. AWESOME ARRANGEMENT, LOREENA!!!

You know, Jesse, I've been listening to 'God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen' especially hard since the remastered version of 'A Winter's Garden' came out in 2004 (the Abdelli arrangement of which appeared on the Marco Polo 'single' years before) and I can't help but wonder if that Abdelli version wasn't also 'remastered' just for AMND? It's long been my favourite from that EP originally issued back in 1995 anyway; the 2004 remaster is outstanding and the 'Abdelli' version of the song is--well, the word WOW comes to mind every time I hear it. I simply cannot sit still when I listen to it play! Smiler

A guilty pleasure, here--I'll admit to putting on the Marco Polo single, which includes 1) the lengthy version, 2) the 4 and 1/2 minute shortened version many elite figure skaters used for their exhibition programs in the late '90s, and also 3) this Abdelli version of GRYMG; I cannot help getting up and dancing all around when I decide to indulge this way; this is a grand little 'belly-dancing rhythm long single', and I do so enjoy it!

Alas, when comtemplating a 'favourite song' from AMND I did choose from amongst only the eight 'new' offerings. Therein lies one of the basic problems with choosing a 'favourite' song from this new CD. For so many of us, five of the songs were not 'new', therefore may not have been thought of in our voting decision quite as diligently.

I just selected a 'favourite' based on more or less first impressions...and old favourite ancient songs...in the scheme of things I feel doing that doesn't always mean much. Wink

I hope that Loreena can see she has produced a truly winning CD, here. Just look at how evenly the 'voting' has gone...small-numbered though the votes may be. :-)

Jeanne
so...which did you vote for, Celtickat?

I see that nobody likes In The Bleak Midwinter Frowner

I've been thinking that maybe Un Flambeau, Jeanette, Isabelle would be good to do medieval dancing to. I'd love to get around to choreographing (I can't spell) something. what do you all think?

Gaaaaaaaah noooo I can't decide!! The holly and the ivy is so magic, but seven rejoices is so enchanting and I always loved good king wenceslas and good rest and snow is so great and Seeds of love makes my heart sing XO But I have not yet taken a good listen to all of the new songs on AMND so I can not say that all are excellent, although they probably are...! I have some homework to do, I guess.

(Putting on dark sunglasses and a mysterious look): I'll be back...

All in all it's a beautiful CD and it has been on our CD player throughout all the days of Christmas.

This Christmas has been very joyous for my wife and I - we had a pretty stressful year but managed to get everything done! So the song that caught both our spirit the best was Un Flambeau, Jeanette, Isabelle. The song just made us happy and content.

Udo
It's odd that I would have a favorite on this cd as I love all of them, but The Holy and the Ivy stands out in my mind the most. I find it strange because there are no lyrics in the song as I love Loreena's voice the best. Then again, how can I say this gently? Ok, here it goes, Christmas songs are not my favorite songs to listen to. Then again when Loreena is singing, I fall in love with them. I do love the old, unfamiliar songs unlike the commercialized Christmas tunes. I also love the Twisted Christmas Tunes. Maybe it's my mind that is twisted?
I don't know, but this I do know; I have to get AMND back from my neighbor. She LOVES Loreena!!! She thanks me all the time for introducing Loreena to her. And I am so grateful for Kathryne for understand Loreena and her music.

Blessed Be,
Gina
I think I didn't vote...

Maybe this year at christmas !
I can't deside! Roll Eyes Frowner

There's something about the melody to Noël Nouvelet...
But the accompangement isn't my taste. I think I have had too much of that sound...

Then The Holly and the Ivy also has a sweet melody. And The Seven Rejoices of Mary. And Emmanuel... Yes, all of them!

In the Bleak Midwinter is unik in being pure instrumental. I like it very much.
Each song has its beauty...
And then if I regard the new recording I love "The holy and the ivy" and "The seven rejoices of Mary" with lirics and "Breton carol" and "In the bleak midwinter" without lirics, but if I regard the old recording I love so much "Snow" ( where I live it isn't snow Frowner and this song, for me, is magic! Big Grin I can almost touch the snow!) and "Seeds of love". So, I can't decide!
Anyway, this new CD is just lovely for Christmas time and for winter! I really love it.
Thank you very much, Loreena!
bye, Mary

You're right, Jesse. I prefer that version, too.
And I can't forget the live version that I listened at the Verona concert, last december.
It was wonderful, indeed!

Is there a recording of this? I'm so sad that I missed it! Frowner

Well. It is my favourite on that CD. Maybe because it's without singing...

Big Grin Big Grin yes, you're right, you don't seem a guy at all Big Grin! Who knows why I thought it was a guy who voted it. Confused

....Anxious, try to explain your words about 'without singing' Confused, otherwise Jesse is right.
