My husband and I heard "The Lost Child" in the concert in Vermont last fall. Loreena performed it with much more in mind, as she told us before she sang it. The whole idea of children's minds being rewired as a result of over-exposure to the internet and things like that is chilling. Thank you, Loreena, for caring enough about children to do the research and announce the results of your research publicly. Your intent behind performing it gave the song a whole new meaning. I have worked with...
Hi William, At first, thanks for pointing out that live version of The Stolen Child. You may have a look at the following Smithsonian Folkways page: Fast Folk Musical Magazine (Vol. 4, No. 8) Toronto. On that page is given the link to the facsimile of Fast Folk Musical Magazine (Vol. 4, No. 8) in pdf. What we understand about the track: - "The baker’s dozen of songs are performed before a live audience." - The piece is performed by Loreena (harp) , David Woodhead (fretless bass and...
My wife and I were at the concert in Indianapolis IN on the Butler Campus. I am from the UK and my wife is from Indiana. We both thoroughly enjoyed the concert and all of Loreena's work on CD and DVD. It appears that Indiana is not the cultural wasteland it appears as I agree there were plenty of fans in attendance. Looking forward to the new album hopefully in 2017.
Thanks so much for your quick reply. While I'd learned that he'd played with Loreena for many years, I just couldn't picture him playing that particular piece. Man he is good.....certainly a man of many talents. I feel I should ask, are you familiar with that particular song? If not, be sure to listen to it, I can't say enough about it. Thanks again.
Hi there! I happened upon a live version of The Stolen Child on Spotify that I've not yet heard. I won't post the link because I'm not sure if the rules allow it, but it's one of just a few tracks by Loreena you can find there. It is a part of an album called "Fast Folk Musical Magazine (Vol. 4, No. 8) Toronto" made in 1989. I found on Wikipedia that Fast Folk was a way for singer/songwriters to release their first few tracks: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_Folk I'd...
I recently purchased The Best Of album. There is one particular song that I listen to over and over again. "Beneath a Phrygian Sky", Live in Germany 2012. I'm trying to find out who plays the awesome guitar in that song. It really moves me....Please can anyone assist me if in finding out who that is?
Attended Loreena's trio performance last night in Indianapolis. As an ex-pat Canadian living in Indianapolis, I knew to be excited as I had not ever seen her live before. The performance far exceeded my own high expectations. What a night! What a voice! To my heart's delight, the crowd was sizable and very enthusiastic! I wasn't sure how many people in this city/region would be aware of Loreena and her magnificent voice. The response from the crowd made me proud. Great show!
I would think so. I mean she usually sings about 18 songs per concert. If she performed all of "Lost Souls", she would still have about 9 songs to choose from her back catalogue. And this is assuming she is performing ALL of "Lost Souls", which I do not know. "Bonny Portmore" is a great song, and it was a "hit" so I would think it would be in the setlist.
I’m pretty sure Bonny Portmore, All Souls Night, Bonny Swans, The Lady of Shalott, Mummers Dance, Stolen Child, The Old Ways, and Dante’s Prayer aren’t going anywhere, they’ve been setlist staples for a while. Maybe Full Circle, as well. Those are all classics I’d hate to see go. I’d also love to see Marco Polo back!
Rodrigo, I hope that when you go to the performance, you will enjoy it. If you'd like and when possible, you can stay afterwards for autographs. That, I recommend (or you can arrange for a private meeting). Whichever makes you comfortable, it is up to you.
I suggest that you contact Quinlan Road via email. Or another way that you can do that is that from time, Quinlan Road may offer special "VIP" passes for a limited amount of people. Otherwise, you should stay after the program for autographs. Does that help you, Rodrigo?
I’ve been searching for setlists of her recent concerts so I know what to expect, but haven’t found anything yet. I’m sure she won’t leave the old classics behind, but my ultimate dream is to see her performing The Mystic’s Dream live! That was the song that turned me into her fan 15 years ago and it would be the happiest day of my life. I’m a first timer, so I would like to know something: does she usually do autograph sessions after her concerts?
Hey Marcelle, have you seen the search function of this forum (the little magnifying glass icon on the top of every page)? Just search for "setlist" and you will get plenty of results. You can even narrow the search, e.g., only return search hits from the last 4 years or so. As to autograph sessions, yes, Loreena very often (but not always) shows up after the gigs. Cheers, Stefan.
Thank you, Stefan! I’ll check it out! It’s also my first day here in the forum so thank you for letting me know! Here’s to hoping that she will show up, it will be late and in the middle of the week, but it will be worth the waiting!
Hey, my name is Julia, and I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. When Loreena first came to Rio, I couldn't go because of some money issues. I was so, so sad because i thought she wouldn't come again! When she announced the Lost Souls Tour it felt like a miracle! I think it's pretty fair to say that I've waited all my life for this concert! After my dad passed away in a car accident when I was only 4 years old, my mother started her master’s degree program on top of 6 different jobs to ensure...
